I’ve been doing this for most jobs to which I’ve applied. The reasoning, so I’m told, is that’s necessary to get past the ATS (applicant tracking system). With some, I do a personalized cover let’s too. But, this limits the amount of jobs to which I can apply and, as far as I see, this is a number’s game. Lot of work for low return. And I don’t think the majority of them have anyone look at them even if I do get past the ATS. What are your thoughts?

Turn Twitter HQ into a Homeless Shelter.
Elon Musk, Twitter Inc.'s largest shareholder, proposed turning the social media company's San Francisco headquarters into a homeless shelter because “no one shows up anyway.” Musk made the proposal via a Twitter poll on Saturday night. Nearly 1.2 million people had responded by Sunday morning, and 91.1% of them voted in favor of the idea. No one shows up anway cause you can work form home now.
Vacation King
My boss (56M) is overall pretty great. However, during the almost 3 years I’ve worked here he does this thing where several times a year he takes vacation days 3-6 at a time. Most recently he has one coming up the last week of April. I’m ALL about taking the time off that we all earn and need, but let me explain why this is triggering me. The managers who report to him turn into disrespectful monsters when he is away, and they’ve never been held accountable. He has one person who sort of acts like a backup for him, but they are moving in 2 weeks and we don’t have a replacement. There is a lot of daily decision making that goes on with or without him here and this job is so wildly stressful that we are bleeding employees – and yet he seems not to care when…
Forgive me if this does not fit here, but I don’t know where else to look for solidarity, it feels like nobody else around me is feeling the same. I’m a preschool teacher, have been for 5 years. I’m 24, I’m a man, and I live in the US. Before COVID, I was working 7:30-5:30 M-F with a 2 hour break from 12-2. 3 days a week, I’d go to an after hours program to teach from 6-9. I also babysat at least 6 hours a week for the kids in my class out of school hours. On top of all that, I didn’t have a car, so I was using Texas’ terrible bus system to travel 1.5 hours each way to and from work every day. For those who are counting, that’s approximately 80/168 of my hours a week doing work of some kind. I was tired and underpaid,…
I chose the wrong industry to work in
I’m a server and I regret working in the restaurant industry so much. It’s my only experience and all I know. I’ve tried getting out of restaurants but I’m only offered $15 the hour elsewhere. I’m 25 and still live with my parents. I’m expecting to move out but the rent here is insane. I can’t afford living here. I’m overworked, exhausted, and treated like shit by management. I’m also expected to meet a sales number every month or I’m fired. The commission from that is $5 credit for when I want to eat there. This is bullshit.
So i was working in a bakery part time during my studies. I have facial piercings and this bakery updated their hygiene standards a few months before to allow facial piercings. So i worked there for about 2 months and worked really well. My mom also worked there part time so we worked toghether sometimes which was never an issue. If i do a job i do it right so i was super friendly to customers and did way less mistakes than beginners usually do (i was told that as well). Then the company received two complaints by elerdy women that didnt complain about my work ethics, but “Since when is someone like HER working for this bakery”. So they just complained about my looks. The oldest coworker i had was over 60 years old and she also complained to the bakery and lied that i would constantly touch and…
Need some input – I think I should get paid for this time. I started a remote work project today. I haven’t been able to do any of that work because I can’t get into the needed programs through no fault of my own. I’m at home, but I’ve allocated this time for work and I can’t do anything else. I have to use my personal computer. I’m planning to enter the hours on my timesheet. I’m glued to the screen and have been sending regular updates/emails to the staffing agency and company. What are your thoughts?
