Month: May 2022
Hi antiwork, I need your advice on something, I'll try to keep it short. Basically I have worked for the same small bar on and off for over ten years, starting when I was about 15. In those ten years I never got a payraise even though I went from just doing dishes to opening and basically being shift leader. (My wage went up as I got older, but that's a legal requirement it was always minimum wage.) I now haven't worked at the bar for about a year and have a different job that I enjoy much more, but the owner rang me to ask if I could help with the staff shortage and do one shift a month. I enjoy working at the bar and could use a bit more money so I said yes, but also said that I wanted a pay raise. (I am aiming to…
Interviewing sucks
I think interviewing is a terrible experience and feels like a complete waste of time if you don’t get the job and sometimes even if you do. You spend so much time and get nothing out of it, literally nothing for doing a project, giving a presentation. Meanwhile, companies get free ideas and have to show little to no loyalty to employees. Is there ways to make it feel worthwhile? What are some things that can make the experience feel like you actually gained something from the experience.

If you haven't listened to any of his songs, give them a try. While they're a little dated, the messages that are conveyed are very relevant and moving as ever.
The reality of worker oppression is really fucking hard to witness as someone who is about to enter the workforce at 18. I cant help but feel hopeless. The economic structure and lack of morality in the US is appalling. After I graduate from college, I’m leaving the first chance I get. There’s not a chance in hell that a worker’s revolution is unfolding so long as there’s that overfunded military here. The wealthy are going to stay in power no matter what. Thanks for reading this, if anyone actually stopped to. I need to get my thoughts away from this stuff for the sake of my own wellbeing.
I started a thread in the Truckers subreddit, but am curious to hear people's opinions over here. For those that don't know, trucking is very very unregulated. Companies do not have to pay regular hourly wages (many pay by production or by the mile) and almost none pay time and a half for overtime. This new bill, H.R. 7517, would change that I was a trucker for the better part of the last ten years, and recently made a change into a more white collar position. However, I still feel like truckers are get shafted, mainly because regular people don't know. Here is the link to the other post I made – https://www.reddit.com/r/Truckers/comments/uzwv8n/proposed_overtime_bill_for_truckers/
Sabotage your employer.
If you're not being compensated fairly and you can't afford to quit, make sure that you are costing your employer at least as much as he should be paying you. You want to get rid of shitty employers? RUIN THEM! Destroy their business, then move on to the next one. It's the right thing to do.
