Genuine Question About Education

Just because every time a post about education comes up, there are always 2 very opposing viewpoints. So are schools.. Capitalistic indoctrination centers- the fact that students are in school 8 hours a day 5 days a week is just preparing them for corporate slavery Or Whatever we don’t know about life by the time we are 30 is the fault of the education system because they didn’t have a class devoted to it in high school? I’m really not a troll here, just a former teacher who is really confused by the contradictory stances on education on this sub (and Reddit as a whole I guess). Either students are in school way too long just to condition them, or there are at least a dozen extra courses they should be taking but aren’t.

If I am ever interviewing for a job again I am totally doing this.

If the interviewer asks me the stupidest question. “Why should we hire you?” I'll give one of 2 answers. 1: You're the hiring interviewer, I'm not doing your work for you. That's not the job I am applying for. 2: Seriously? I'm not even on payroll yet and you are already delegating your responsibilities on me?

Never thought i’d need to post here, but i need some advice please.

So to cut to the chase, my boyfriend is an 18 year old living in Massachusetts. He recently (under two weeks ago) picked up a job at a unionized Stop n Shop, in the bakery department. During the hiring process, he mentioned to the hiring manager that he has recently had surgery in his back due to a herniated disc, and he may need accomadations as such. He also mentioned that for schedule reasons, he was unable to work Wednesdays. On the second week of his job, his manager schedules him for three days in a row, these days being Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. He called up, cleared things up, apparently everything was okay. He just got fired. The hiring manager used him asking for a schedule change as a reason. His exact words were: “Nipping it at the bud, because once you get into the union it'll be impossible…

The woeful tale of Bojangles

Gonna start this by saying: I have never worked bojangles or any other fast food. It just so happens that bojangles is one of my favorite places to eat – I love everything about it. I really fucking wish they could pay their employees more, they’re always closing early because they can’t keep anyone on and I can never get my damn bojangles when expected. And when they do manage to stay open I always feel guilty that I’m contributing to their corporate greed. Bojangles doesn’t have the best profit margin but it’s not like they’re so broke they can’t pay people enough to at least keep their stores open…. So basically, fuck Bojangles. Wendy’s, MaccyDs, the lot. Fuck em.

How many antiworkers here automated their work from home jobs?

My career goal is to find a work from home job. That way I can find a way to automate it and turn it into a mostly passive income stream. I know I may not be able to %100 automate it but I don't mind fixing something if it breaks or answering emails and such. Then I can spend the rest of my time enjoying my leisure and hobbies. Has anyone here done this?

Organize or die. Organize and die. While the old and rich feast on blood and gold, our children’s lives are cheaply sold.

Kids Who Die This is for the kids who die, Black and white, For kids will die certainly. The old and rich will live on awhile, As Always, Eating blood and gold, Letting kids die. Kids will die in the swamps of Mississippi Organizing sharecroppers Kids will die in the streets of Chicago Organizing workers Kids will die in the orange groves of California Telling others to get together Whites and Filipinos, Negroes and Mexicans, All kinds of kids will die Who don’t believe in lies, and bribes, and contentment And a lousy peace. I saw how much my boss gets paid

Yesterday I walked into my boss lady’s office to talk about some maintenance issues and she had her pay history pulled up on her computer. She’s a salaried employee, and granted this is after her health insurance and 401k, but she had like 2 months of pay history pulled up, and every week she takes home a whopping… $470. One of her pay installments was like $3500 though so I assume that was a bonus or something. I make $13/hr and my boss is bringing home like $30 a week more than me (I don’t have health insurance or retirement, so that’s everything post tax). I thought it was kind of mind blowing that a GM in her 50’s is bringing home less than $500 a week. I live in a poor state, so that’s enough to pay the bills but damn. I guess that explains why she can actually…

Part Time?

Did I lose the correct definition of part-time work at some point? I’ve been into so many interviews that are advertised as part-time only for them to expect you to work five days a week with full weekend availability. A lot of times even asking for full eight hours each of those five days!

Did some math on Social Security and the Federal Minimum Wage

If minimum wage had merely kept pace with inflation since 1970, it would be $26/hr today. The last increase in the federal minimum wage was in 1992 to $7.25/hr. If it had simply received the same COLA increases as Social Security since that time, it would be $14.02 today. 40% of jobs posted are offering less than $15/hr. Is it any wonder why they're not being filled? The argument that it's only teens or college students who are expected to work at these low paying jobs is ludicrous. 40% of the workforce is not made up of high school and college students. The problem is not that “nobody wants to work.” It's that nobody wants to work for slave wages and live in poverty. From 1975 to 1982, Social Security was increased anywhere from 6.4% to 14.3% EVERY YEAR. Boomers are great at paying themselves. They just don't want to…
