For context, see my previous post below: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/uaz1hz/this_is_what_happens_when_you_useabuse_your/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 As of today, I've finished my first week as the Manager of the Student Legal Services Department at my alma mater. This week felt like a dream – I am constantly pinching myself to make sure it's all real. For starters, I have my own office!!! It looks great and has a great view of the downtown area to boot. I get to work from home the majority of the week if I choose to – office hours are from 9-2, so the work day goes by in the blink of an eye. My coworkers seem nice, although the age difference is huge – most of the people I'm working with have worked at the office since before I was born (and then some). One red flag is that the attorney that initially interviewed me warned me that the receptionist…

It was in the office. 🤷️
I want to start by saying, I am not against the activities in this sub, in fact after only recently learning about it I am trying to understand the sentiment a bit better. For background, I am an immigrant in this country and absolutely love it. I am a believer that it is the best country in the world. However, I understand it may not the be the case for everyone. I keep hearing about how other countries offer the lifestyle you all want, so why is leaving the country not an option? People from all over the world struggle for years to come to America, why can't Americans leave their country? I am not attacking, just genuinely curious why this isn't an option in this globalized world. I came to America because it offers what I want, why not do the same if you like other countries? Once again,…
Every day is “vacation”…
HR was aware of my psychological illnesses, medications, and treatment when I got the job. I was let go less than a month later due to a bipolar low. I remained silent for two days because I was depressed but still worked, was respectful, and socialized when needed. I was told my demeanor was unsuitable and hurting my co-workers feelings because I was not as outgoing as I usually am. This happened in a no-fault state and the reason I was given for termination was “violation of probationary period”. Because of the toll this has had on my mental health I am resorting to checking myself in to a mental health treatment center. This is how this field of mental health work truly thinks of those they aspire to help. I'm not worthy of helping others because I myself have a mental illness.
companies hire 13/14 yo’s , the hell?
I don't know if someone posted about this already, but i (19m) am from NL and I Saw Something on the news that just blew my mind. I am used to hear that kids at that Age do chores or Deliver paper to Earn some money. But what I Saw on the news made me go like: the hell is this BS?! Companies are now hiring kids due Workers shortage….. KIDS SHOULDNT WORK WITH THESE KINDA MACHINES (on the news I Saw them work with machines in amusement Parks) I also work part time and the Youngest person I know that Works at the same place is 16 or Something. For Real am I overreacting or not?
First time posting, guess I’m just looking for advice I suppose. I’m pretty sure you can guess the company from the title. Say a member of management that is supposed to be in charge of a group of people, sexually harassed an employee below their level. I believe in any Employee Handbook, there is a policy that says or resembles “We have zero tolerance for sexual harassment.” Statements were written, there is photo evidence of countless messages and the nameless man in charge showed up to the employees house on several occasions unannounced. Said man is also married. He also presumed to tell numerous people that he and this employee had a “thing” going on. Management was notified. They told me a woman from HR would be coming to speak with me. Management also told one of the other employees that is involved that a man would be coming. This…
Some field notes
Examples of what I’ve seen in workplaces over the years: Nepotism Tech disasters left behind by baby boomers and people who haven’t updated their knowledge Lack of operations or realistic structures Low pay and exploitative situations Workforce training that hasn’t been updated in decades High turnover and unknowns Gaslighting and stonewalling Decisions not based on research and data Lack of realistic consulting, useful conversations or insight on economic trends
I work at a little farm stand just outside my city. We sell produce, jarred goods, spices, honey, but our best seller is the ice cream. We're a very popular place for tourists and locals. It's located close to a military base, so it's a great spot to come out and watch the jets fly over, which attracts a lot of people. Today is Friday, the weather is amazing, and I was the only one supposed to work this morning (and only one person for the afternoon shift was supposed to come in, which is absolutely crazy to me). I called out sick because there's a really good chance I could have covid and I don't want to be passing that on to customers. It's also a holiday weekend (Memorial Day) and theyre actually expecting it to be busier than a normal weekend. I haven't seen the real crazy busy…
