They know the revolt is coming
I work for a huge organization. I applied and for a promotion in my company. I was an hourly assistant in one market and I became a salaried exempt manager in another market. However, instead of replacing my old position, they had me work both jobs. I spoke to a lawyer and was informed that a manager can’t do the work for an assistant. The “manager” job turned out to be more like a project that consumes an hour or two of my day and doesn’t really fit the exemption “duties test.” I brought up my concerns in an email to HR. Their investigation was supposed to be complete on Friday. Today, however, my manager demoted me back to an assistant and my “manager” duties are on hold until mid-July. Exemption status is unchanged and I’ve retained my salary. Now I really don’t fit the criteria. In all, this feels…
“I'm offended! You said we were like a family. Next thing I know, you're going to tell me you'd stop paying me if I stopped showing up.”
