Hello everyone. I was just recently let go of from a job. And it all seemed suspicious. Let me explain the situation. I was a server at a senior living facility. Another server was standing in the doorway of where I needed to go. Which was our dining room. I just walked past her because I didn't want to wait anymore to try and get by. I walked past her, and as I walked past her I touched her. It wasn't intentional contact, I just happened to brush her as I was walking by. Then that server snapped at me and said “you could've at least said excuse me!” I was put an unpaid leave for a week while they did their little BS “investigation”. They do have a camera in our kitchen which caught what happened. So I came back on a Tuesday and was told I was being…

I’d like to have some good talking points and statistics to back me up next time I hear it from someone
Pretty much the title! Team meeting today (during our lunch break, really curious of she's expecting us to charge for that), and we were told that we're going to start having 'team building' meetings. Okay, great (I hate them, but it's a thing we all have to deal with). Boss – We're going to volunteer for the around the city! Me – So, these will be during the work day right? Boss – Well, no, they'll be at the end of day Friday. Me – Okay, so there will be a charge for us to use? Boss – Well, by Friday, most people have worked a little extra and you guys can flex and use your own time! That's going to be a hard no from me dawg.
For 6 months I have been working at a multinational corporation many of you will have heard of. When I started I was given comprehensive handover notes from the person I was replacing relating to key tasks which were now my responsibility. One of these tasks was to send some data to an external agency. Having followed the handover notes (to the letter), I sent the agency the data and cc'd in my boss and director (as per the instructions). Shortly afterwards I get an email from my director accusing me of a serious data breach, as I had sent too much data to the agency apparently, and they ordered me to immediately call the agency and tell them to delete the data and resend it. I told both my boss and director that the instructions mentioned nothing about sending less data, but they both said it should have been…
I worked for several years as a baggage handler for Northwest Airlines. They had a deal where if you had perfect attendance for, I believe it was 5 years, they would give you an all-expenses, week-long, vacation to Hawaii. This one dude on my unit (a unit at that time was 3 gates that a team of 8-10 were responsible for all flights there) was one day away from perfect attendance. The caveat was you had to have no disciplinary action taken against you. All he had to do was finish the day and he had his free vacation. He had no disciplinary history, so the entire day a manager shadowed our unit and shadowed the flights he was working on. They took this manager off his concourse and off his duties to find a way to prevent the company from having to pay for his vacation. Until the very…

Hi antiwork! I really appreciate the spirit of this sub and the knowledge that's been shared here. You've helped me navigate a few different work environments since your inception and now I have a new monster to tackle: After doing market research for my city as well as my position (graphic designer) in similarly sized companies, I'm being under-paid to the tune of $15,000. Are there any resources you would suggest to help me prep for my performance review tomorrow? My main hurtle is that I've only worked for this company a little over a year, and while my supervisor is on my side, she is concerned that our COO won't be amicable to my request for a nearly 30% raise. I'm anxious and the only advice anyone has given me is “walk in there confidently – know your worth!” and “bring examples of how you're an asset!” It all…
I decided a few months ago to move out of state. I have been struggling with the decision to give my work a notice. I was planning on it up until 3 weeks before my last day. But my boss being his usual self, is constantly bitching about things that are out of my control. He’s very passive aggressive in the way he complains. It’s very frustrating and it’s very unprofessional. A year into the job a position opened up. I was told I’d be a shoo in for the job. They ended up hiring someone from outside the company and they had to fire him within a year cause he was terrible at the job. I am finally given the chance to move up. Only problem is they can’t find someone to fill my old spot. So I ended up doing my old job for 6 months all while…
