First post so go easy but I thought this deserved to be here. I got CC’d in this long winded email today from a manager (not mine) and thought it belonged here. It’s one of the most tone deaf emails I’ve ever read. I’m not the worker in question, and I don’t work directly with them. I know its a long email, but this is worth the read. It’s no wonder the worker left with such a “supportive” manager who appears to reward success with nothing but unmanageable deadlines. I don’t think they struggled with the decision despite what the manager thinks. (Email below in full from said manager I just removed names and identifying projects) Hi All, Yesterday, (worker) informed me that they have accepted a role at another organisation. For myself, the team and many people who have worked with (worker) at (organisation), it is sad news. And…
3 hour unpaid demo
this isnt my story but was just shared with me through a friend. Said friend was going for a job interview at a day care and they wanted her to do a demo as part of the job interview, they then left her in a room full of kids unsupervised (didn't even watch her demo), didnt get offered a job, they basically used her for free labor / to help cover a shift.
Speaking up as healthcare workers
I read many posts here about healthcare workers who are frustrated with the their hospitals because of lack of ethics, safety and patient care and how money comes first. My friend is a healthcare worker and decided to start sharing their stories anonymously on social media. If you are a healthcare worker please feel free to reach out to me and I will connect you to my friend to share your story anonymously.
Nothing will ever get better.
It’s just the truth.
Embracing antiwork in a pro work world?
My goal in life isn't to work. I have passions but nothing I want to make a “career” out of. I just started in tech and I somewhat enjoy it but I don't want to do this forever. What way can I embrace and antiwork lifestyle while still working 🙁 I think my goal is a FIRE lifestyle because I don't give a shit about materialistic lifestyles. But at the same time I feel like I'm giving up the best years of my life 20-40 . Maybe I'm just having a quarter life crisis (I'm only 23) . Anyone have any advice on how you cope in a world that is so pro work and capitalism.
