I think its time employers and employees had a talk. What 10 things (upvote them) should be the new tenet so were all on the same page.

I really hope employers plead their case cause it would help us all to start negotioations..

The Problem of Supply

We all agree here that businesses often take advantage of employees and that is bad. But I think there's an aspect that doesn't get enough attention but is vital to this conversation. People in first world countries don't produce enough of their own essentials. We don't grow our own food or sew our own clothing, etc. This means we rely on money to get our needs met. It also means that we are using basically slave labor in some cases to get basic living essentials. In order to make a real change, this needs to change. However, it's not a change that would be easy to make. Without community support, it's extremely difficult to produce your own goods. Our societies become more and more skewed against this way of living.

Giving the company I work for no other option.

I'm going to start by saying that I have been with this company for almost 3 years. My roommate/coworker has been there for almost 4 years. Neither of us have gotten a raise, we work for minimum wage ($12.75/hr) plus tips. My roommate was an admin for a while, so he got .50 more an hour when he was doing that. He was doing that for 2 stores and it was supposed one admin per store. He stepped down as it wasn't worth it to do the job of 2 people. A month ago, our boss quit. She got tired of doing the jobs of 3 people by herself. She was a multi unit supervisor, so she did all of those duties and the duties of 2 admins by herself. They denied her a raise because she kept going over on her hours, her team knew she stressed, and things…

Beware of feel good opportunities

Not going to complain about wages because I get by. I was recruited about 2 1/2 years ago to help a large food bank with their logistics and accounting software. It was something that made me feel good and I could work from home. The people at the food bank have been great, however the company that contracts me out is a whole other thing. I recently found out that the first 1 1/2 years there were 2 layers of companies billing my time and each taking huge cuts billing my time at $168/hr and paying me under $60. Now it's a single company that bills me at $95 and still pays me the same. I only found this out because during tax time I was auditing my timesheets comparing them to what I was being paid and found they were 4 months behind in paying me. I asked the…

Jobs suck when Bureaucrats are in charge to

So the department next to mine has had a shake up due to shit awful management that I thought I would share to both vent and for the lols. Tldr at the bottom. So the oldest guy there is approaching retirement and being very protective of what he does starts training a replacement to take over for about 2 years all told I would say. He gets approval from the higher ups qnd the new guy is hard working dedicated, smart and driven. Old guys retirement is approaching and the new guy hasn't been officially offered the job yet but figures no worries. None of us had seen it advertised. The job requires alot of very specialized knowledge and skillset while also having a good working relationship with a diverse group of others. We are in a hospital so your dealing with clinical people purely focused on the patient, supply…

Mandatory Unpaid Lunch – Greatest Scam Ever?

I've worked a number of jobs, one actually had a paid lunch, but all of my other jobs have done this “mandatory 30 minute unpaid lunch”. And it just feels like the absolute biggest scam. Of course, you can't use that 30 minute lunch for the beginning or end of your shift, even though it's mandatory and management often doesn't care when you take it. It's infuriating. At my previous job, my manager was actually fine with us taking it at the end of our shift to leave a half hour earlier, but corporate eventually caught on and penalized him for it. And it wasn't a situation where we were operating a customer facing storefront or something and had to be open til a specific time. We were perfectly capable of finishing our tasks 30 minutes before closing. But we couldn't leave and take our lunch at that time. My…

A blessing in disguise for me ,COVID came and I finally had a reason to quit that despicable jobs and got an excuse when my parents asked. Went back to my country and thank to money save from spending my youth just work I can invest and live off interested.…

40 hours a week is lazy?

One thing I hate about the modern work environment is working your regularly scheduled hours is considered doing the bare minimum. My work hours are 8-5 min-Fri. When I’m at work I bust my ass for my regularly scheduled work hours. But when it’s time to go home I go home and I don’t think about work until 8 am the next day. And because I’m like the only one that doesn’t work overtime every week I’m looked at as the lazy one because I don’t work more than the hours I agreed upon when I was hired. Sorry I believe in a work life balance and I don’t want to be consumed by my work 24/7.
