I don’t believe in work-life balance
I think the term work-life balance was created by bosses….. https://youtu.be/UjVFJ3rV8DM
How to be rich in America
It's pretty simple really: First, be born the right color and into a family of the upper-mid class or better. Second, invest a paltry school-teacher-salary-sum into a business partnered with other familiar faces whom practice/obsess the same (im)moral code (of the same race, of course) Third, reap the benefits and die long after the victims, AKA employees and community members, of the business become aware of the effects of the business on their livelihoods and health And for all others it's quite literally get fucked or get out and that's devastating. Sorry if this is a downer but I look around at my own country and just feat defeat in knowing I live here and people I can call neighbors actually enjoy this shit. It's as if the founding fathers intended for the rich to stay rich and exploit the blindfolded masses, never actual freedom or equality…
The worker is not the problem..
Shower Thoughts.
I'm fairly new here. I see a lot of posts shitting on specific ads, and sometimes specific companies, particularly large ones. No real issues there. But I think it's worth pointing out that the real issue is the underlying structure. The economic system is designed to put any employer who pays above “fair market value” in an untenable position. Even if you name is Doug Macmillon, there's no way your shareholders will allow you to pay all “associates” a living wage. Capitalism can only function if it creates more problems than it solves. Pay people too little? Lot of poverty. But that's also an “opportunity” to hire a bunch of people below (the ever nebulous) “fair market rate”. Rinse. Wash. Repeat. In short – these companies can't pay a living wage, or they will cease to exist. “Well good. If you can't pay a living wage, they shouldn't be in…
Even “good” jobs are terrible
I worked for a self storage company in the Midwest that managed their properties over the phone. I was an employee in the call center. All things considered, it wasn't a terrible job with decent pay, ok benefits and generally good people in management. One of the benefits was bereavement leave. Per the company policy the death of a parent or child was given 3 paid days of bereavement (which is already pretty bad) and the death of a grandparent, grandchild, aunt/uncle or first cousin was given 1 paid day. I was raised by my great grandmother. She and my great grandfather stepped and took custody of myself and two sisters (one was an infant) in their 70s. They were fantastic and gave us the best childhood. Sadly she passed away in 2014 on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, hours before I was about to travel home to see her. It…
I can’t share too many details but I’m actually doing it. I have enough evidence and proof on my side and my former co workers are willing to testify if it goes beyond a settlement but I’m sick of people in Georgia using a “fire for any reason state” excuse. You’re breaking federal law, asshole. I have documented evidence of my disability, was guaranteed at interview this wouldn’t be an issue, and the new owner (purchased a majority share) decides nobody is allowed to sit, disabled or otherwise; if you don’t like it, we will fire you for making us seem like a fool for breaking ADA and denying the easiest reasonable accommodation request in history. I EVEN OFFERED TO BRING MY OWN DAMN CHAIR!! Then they proceed to try and use “evidence” from 5 years ago when I worked for the same company to prove I wasn’t disabled. BEFORE…
