I discussed staying on as an employee. Now 2 weeks before the change over I get a letter saying I am done. I really hate people who lie.

i'm currently studying to be a research sociologist. we learned throughout this semester about a variety of topics of inequalities in the US in one of my classes, and i thought i'd share a little piece from the textbook for that class. one chapter explicitly states that the US middle class and above enjoy freedom while working class and lower are subject to rules and subjugation. i wonder why that is 🤔 (book and section is exploring inequality: a sociological approach by jenny m. stuber, newest edition chapter 9). btw this isn't to say middle class people are rich or anything they just, on average, are given more freedom in their jobs and life. anyway, it made me think of retail workers, typically working class and lower, because i used to be one. i used to work at walgreens and the amount of rules and regulations that bottom tier employees…
Make sure you're never alone when discussing workplace conditions with management. At least discuss with your colleagues first. When you have two or more employees' interests on your side, your actions are protected from retaliation. I'm not a labor lawyer, and this is US only, but good to remember when you're pushing management's buttons and they threaten to fire you over it. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protected_concerted_activity
Take back your rights, mass resignation
I work in social services as a street outreach worker. Our outreach program is failing and has poor worker retention. At the end of this month, we will only have two staff left and four open positions. The open positions have not been posted, and no one has been interviewed for them. Additionally, we just had a change in management. The new management is calling the outreach workers into a meeting on Wednesday to propose new changes to the program. I have heard through the grapevine that the new manager is looking to increase our workload with these new changes. I will be telling him in this meeting that unless the critical staffing shortage is…

Fired for eating due to health issues
I apologize for the formatting. Did this on my phone. So, I used to work at a 7-Eleven for $11 an hour. My employers knew I have health issues and I'm living off of one meal a day. I'll be honest, I'm not sure why but when I don't eat I get dizzy and then faint. Well, in order to not faint, I grabbed a slice of pizza (we got free food and drinks), and was scarfing it down as quickly as I could while the store was empty with not a customer in sight. Well, my boss reprimands me for it saying I'm not working hard enough (I was on register duty?) and within probably like 30 or so minutes, my husband who works at the local library goes to get his lunch. He sees something is clearly wrong and I try to speak with him. My boss then…
