If you are and might want to know why, before the Socialisation of Labor under Capitalism work was less formal and less centrally planned by privately owned workplaces as we know it today. This explains the high unemployment rate of neurodiverse people at 80 – 85%. Not a very fulfilling or happy life being unable to do much, even if there is a little bit of income from social security which is in many cases not enough to pay rent nor bills. Before the socialisation of labor you did not need to pass through interviews to start working for yourself to survive as the means of production were relatively open sourced compared to today. Work was either done by means of subsistence or via family and neighbours as in most cases you would likely live with the same people from childhood to until the end of your life unless war…
Just stop working
If everyone stopped working, and just stopped the world what would TPTB do exactly? If everyone just stopped working, that would mean no one would get paid and if no one’s paid, bills won’t get paid, and if bills aren’t paid then companies and other businesses no longer can function. Basically in simple terms just cause pure anarchy. None of this peaceful bullshit. Everyone just violently riot. Shit needs to be turned into the French Revolution but 100x worse. Show these politicians and their billionaire masters no one can be taken for granted. Time for peace is long gone. These fuckers couldn’t care less about us. If they saw you looking for your lost dog/cat/child, whoever. They’d probably find it and kill it then blame it on some other fucker and then claim they’ll do everything in their power to help you.
I (hourly Union worker) volunteered to be on the hiring committee for my new boss (salaried, non Union). My employer gives us a set of questions to ask candidates but we are also allowed to ask our own after. Just wondering what Antiwork would ask a prospective new boss. Also, because I'm Union a lot of work-related stuff is in my contract so there's plenty my boss doesn't have any real control of, at least until its time to negotiate a new contract. And if it matters the job is Plant Manager for a small power plant at a Big 10 university.
Great Example of Capitalism
Watching the documentary on 3 Mile Island (Netflix) and all I could think was it's the perfect example of how capitalism allows and encourages governments to ignore when companies cut safety corners and ruin people's lives.
It’s always about paying people less
The joy of working in retail…
About 3 years ago I used to work as a videographer doing social media content for a 7 figure company. I was paid roughly just better than minimum wage and was cranking out (at one point) 50 videos a day. I was freelancing and was on a loose contract. I was desperate for the money. It was an insane amount of work and however I managed to do it for 6 months is beyond me, especially for how shitty I was paid. The office was an incredibly bitter and snide place and it was clear that management would purpolsely stir shit to watch staff fight as a form of entertainment. I kept well away from it but it was incredibly stressful on top of video work. After about six months I pitch to the higher ups that my videos are making an insanely positive difference to their sales (I showed…
Healthcare worker to remote work advice
I get the sense this is a common thread around these parts, but hell, I need to start my transition somewhere, somehow. I am currently a travel/agency ICU nurse (and will be a Nurse Practitioner in about 2 months), however, the burn out is getting to me. I plan to do bedside for a few more months, and quit at a specific target date, before the end of 2022. The golden handcuffs are just not worth it. I still remember being 21 and healthy, with more free time, and more happiness. Now I'm nearly 30 and… it's not looking good, physically or mentally. Are there any healthcare workers (Nurses, Imaging techs, doctors, etc) here who have managed to find fully remote work? If so, how did you go about doing it? Did you acquire any new skills or certifications? Was it difficult? How is your work life balance now? Did…
