My sister works at one of the biggest resorts on the Las Vegas strip at a resort pool deck as a lifeguard. She, amongst other life guards have one place for shade, that being a tiny, pathetic excuse of a Pool Reception Desk. It’s not much more than a large shed missing a wall to act as a window to interact with guests. It does not. Have. Air. There is no fan, no AC. When it becomes more and more difficult to know what would be reasonable to expect, people can be taken advantage of in all kinds of ways. That’s one reason why our workplaces are so dysfunctional.

My first taste of corporate screw over as an adult occurred when my partner and I were living on our apartment in the PNW. We both worked hard and were trying to figure our lives out for the most part. Fortunately I happened to be in a secure position as a mechanic but my girlfriend had been moving between different jobs in the food industry. She had been working at Starbucks for a while and eventually moved her way up to a management position at a different location however at her original location she was accused of doing heroin in the parking lot of her job. (Absurd) The district of this particular Starbucks started an investigation regarding this claim and it prevented her from getting another job within Starbucks that she was otherwise hired for. Yesterday was my last day. Got a few phone numbers from ex coworkers. Store manager mentioned if I wanted to come back I could. I won't. I put in my 3 days notice. Was going to do one week. I should've done two week notice. Literally none of the higher management besides like 2 people I considered for references. I didn't ask then though. I probably should have. New job soon to come at close to a five dollar increase per hour than the minimum wage I was earning. It really is not worth the amount of minimum wage to be belittle/harassed by management/customers. Every day things get more hostile and aggressive. The work can be easy but it's honestly not worth it.
