I have almost two years post-grad experience and I'm still at my first post-grad job. The salary is bad, but they 100% cover the premium for a platinum health insurance plan. I utilize healthcare often so this is a great deal for me. I just had my annual evaluation and received a slight raise, but I'm still underpaid. I may consider looking at other employers that compensate better for my skills and experience. For those who are employed, does your employer cover your health insurance premium? How common is this? When looking at other job postings, I want to know if I'll need to consider the costs of health insurance when comparing it to my current salary. Thank you!
McDonald’s is the worst
I used to work for this one particular McDonald's restaurant part-time as a second job. I quit when I did the math on one of my paychecks and found they were shorting my pay. I wasn't the only one. One of my shift leads confided in me that when they promoted him they intentionally kept paying him crew member pay rather than give him the raise he was owed with the position. They also told him he wasn't needed at a meeting then wrote him up for not attending that meeting. I didn't contest my own pay issue because the owners were shit people. The wife (a married couple owns all the McDonald's in my area) would randomly come in and start verbally abusing the employees about how they weren't doing their job the way they expected. There was one incident where she was verbally abusing my coworker in drive…
I thought the average salary in the USA was 50-60K USD per year but I have read that is too high, a close friend told me it is 4K per month (40-45K USD per year). -What is the average salary in USA? -What is the average cost of living in the USA? (I really think they have a very high purchasing power even though it is expensive)
”Since January, Carvana shares have fallen 83.4% to $38.40 at the time of writing. Basically, $14 billion of market cap has been wiped out in less than five months. Carvana, which went public in 2017 and had been described as “the Amazon of car dealers”, has been taking aggressive measures to turn things around, including laying off 2,500 employees, or about 12% of its workforce. The company's executive team will also forgo their salary for the remainder of the year to contribute to the severance pay for departing employees. Carvana is very much a family affair, as Garcia's father, billionaire Ernest Garcia II is a major shareholder of the battered company. The elder Garcia pled guilty in 1990 to a felony bank fraud charge related to the collapse of Charles Keating's Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, and spent three years on probation. Father and son have lost an estimated 80%…
American Businesses Have Had it Easy
I live in Canada and something that has always been odd to me is how many american companies try to expand to other countries and fail, the most recent that I can remember is Target. I think the reason why they seem to fail is because the people in charge try to run the business like they do in america and workers in other countries won't take it, local governments have a more thorough regulatory system, or the government won't bail them out with subsidies. This has now being reflected in america where covid has awakened an understanding that things don't have to be this way and now american businesses are freaking out that their abusive practices are no longer working. Maybe it's obvious to everyone else but I thought that r/anitwork would appreciate this insight.
Quitting after 9 1/2 years
I started back in 2012 making 23k a year answering the phones.. mandatory hours 8-6 back then. I make (made) much more now but it is no where near comparable to others in the company who came in after. Or even just what people like me make anywhere. Its gross. I've been referred to as the glue of the company many many times. I just can't take it anymore. These fat cat partners get richer every quarter and I'm barely making it. The stress of the job is unbearable during the summer. I did put in a 2-week notice.. my last day is this Friday. Multiple team members asked me not to leave.. almost begging. My boss asked if I would work “part time” this summer so they can figure out how to handle some of my tasks. I work(ed) in student property management so yeah the storm is coming.…
