I've had a lot of shitty bosses, but I want to give credit to my current boss. Last week, our major competitor was shut down by the state. That left dozens of huge contracts open and a major opportunity for our business. We already do millions in business and we were #2 in the state in our industry. The very next day, we started to get in dozens of trucks of product so we could keep their customers running. Our guys are running ragged trying to keep up. The boss decided that he didn't want the business because it's too hard on our workers. He said he makes plenty of money and doesn't want to grow any bigger. He said it's not worth burning us out for extra money he doesn't need. He could pay us all more for the loads of extra work and hours, but he'd rather we…

What is Up with the Lack of Hiring?
This is a bit of a rant. My partner is recently graduated (as of December) and has been applying to work non-stop. So far he's had a limited number of interviews in his field, and the rest have been rejection letters. He was in the final running for something recently and got that rejection letter yesterday, where they went with someone with more experience (of course). He has an Associate's degree, a Bachelor's degree in game design, and while he lacks professional experience (from being on disability for a few years, off of it now) he has a lot of technical skill and a desire to learn anything. Most times he doesn't even get an interview. He's been rejected from McDonald's. He's been rejected from Gamestop and Target. He's been rejected from the local grocery store. I just can't fathom why no one anywhere will give him a chance. He…
In December I posted that my hours managing an office at a small company were cut from 35/week to 10/week the same week I was supposed to be bumped up to 40/week and salary. At 7 months pregnant I was scared and hopeless. It got worse. Two days later I tested positive for COVID and was out for two weeks. The day I was supposed to come back the owner called me and laid me off. He couldn’t pay me. He had planned poorly and between being the slow season and a mishap the month prior where he ended up having to pay a client a large amount of money he couldn’t pay me to keep me on. I was even more devastated. Who would hire a someone who was 7 months pregnant? In February, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. With the average cost of childcare in…

Interesting interview experience
Recently I had an interview that I thought went very well. It was scheduled for 30 mins but went on for 50 minutes instead. Interviewer asked about my career goal and went on to say things like she will help me to achieve the goals together. Towards the end she mentioned that she will connect with her boss to see his availability for next round of interview. This was a role that’s advertised to me by a recruiting agency and tbh they didn’t do a good job of presenting the accurate information of what the responsibilities are and also a bunch of misinformation. For example, the role was advertised hybrid with only 1-2 day in office while in reality the hiring manager told me they want someone fully onsite 5 days a week. But I enjoyed the conversation with the interviewer a lot so I decided to keep on open…

Job Offer Dilemma – Advice Needed
I am in management for a large company and until recently, I loved my job and co-workers. We got a new CMO and as cancer does, the office environment is now toxic and I'm being micor-managed to no end with little direction or tools to be successful in my role. Needless to say, I've begun applying elsewhere. Yesterday, I received an offer for a decent job that will pay me roughly $13K more than I make now. I am also in the process of interviewing for a job that will pay me substantially higher and also come fully remote, though I likely would not get an offer for at least three weeks should I receive one. The moral dilemma… I need to get out of my current role and environment, so I plan to take the role that was offered. However, if the other job makes an offer, the pay…
JOLTS today a big win for labor
The gov't started raising the interest rates in March. In theory this should reduce job openings and shift power back to companies. Today we got the JOLTS report representing April. March was originally reported at 11.5M job openings. In April it dropped but only to 11.4M. The Great Resignation continued w/4.4M quits. It dropped slightly from 4.5M quits in March. Worker to opening ratio stayed at 2 jobs for every 1 person not working. It's slightly better for companies but still not as much a hit as I expected. https://www.businessinsider.com/job-openings-jolts-april-labor-shortage-hiring-recovery-economic-data-2022-5 https://www.businessinsider.com/job-openings-march-jolts-labor-shortage-hiring-market-great-resignation-2022-5
Boss doesn’t care I’m exposed.
Soooo found out our roommate is positive, so obviously I'm exposed, and lol this is what our conversation looks like currently between my boss and I. And to add, I'm pretty iffy to expose others, because my Dad passed from Covid in Dec. 2020 and he got exposed by someone else, so.. I take it very serious since then. Me: Hi, sorry this is a little late. The friend I'm living with got her results about 10 minutes ago for a covid test, and it came back positive. I'm trying to see if I can find any testing for tomorrow, but I'm exposed. I wanted to approach you on this to see what we can do, because I have to open tomorrow. Boss: It's okay, (my name here). We are all exposed at this point. Early on we were much more cautious w exposures, but we now realize we have…
