I'm currently in a Management and Supervision Bachelor degree program in the hope that I can one day move far enough up the ladder at my job to make a difference in the way employees are treated. It's been…horrifyingly eye-opening to read through these textbooks. I'm taking five classes, this is my first semester of the program, and I've already had to read through multiple passages lauding the recent mass abolition of remote work and the golden standards of management set by companies like McDonalds and Tesla. I can't even lie: they make it all sound so good. If I were in college as an 18 year old with little-to-no work experience, I could honestly see myself taking a lot of these principles to heart. This is my first time having worked overtime. I’ve been in work for a while just never had to stay late, this job is new however hence the different demands and I’m not sure what the rules are. I’ve also lived abroad most of my life so the law is unclear to me. I was under the impression however that working overtime you get paid a ‘penalty rate’ which is your typical wages + a percent, as dictated by the government. When I mentioned to a colleague who’s been there longer than me that I was asked to stay and work overtime he quipped ‘good luck with that’, I didn’t prove further as I probably should but it made me uncertain so I asked my manager directly, ‘xyz asked me to stay on another 2 hours, how do I make sure there’s a record that I’m working overtime’ and she…

How is this shit even legal? I snuck up there last night because he asked me “if I knew anyone looking for a rental” — he didn't offer to show me the place, mind you! The entire place is about the size of my downstairs apartment's bedroom, there's no kitchen, and the bathroom consists of a shower with the toilet inside of it. There's ONE, singular window. And holy shit was it fucking HHOOOTTT up there. He's asking $1,000/mo. I'm actually mostly shocked that he asked me to recommend this place to an acquantaince, when I have to assume he wouldn't even let his fucking DOG live there.

I have a Homer Simpon sized list of jobs I have had over the years But for some reason when people here that they think “oh, you just can't hold down a job” I can hold down a job just fine. What I CAN'T do is work for people who use me, treat me like shit, and pay me less than I'm worth I learned very early on in life that if you don't like where you work, you don't need to stay there and “just take it ” you can leave
