So one of my former 'kids' dropped by yesterday just to shoot the shit and have a beer. As we caught up he told me about his new job. $23 an hour, 12 hour shifts 3 days a week, normally 5 to 10 hours of OT a week, and it's way easier than slinging groceries. I told him how happy I was for him and he should be proud of himself. He said 'I'd have never found that job if you hadn't told me I was better than the job we were doing. You taught me how to look out for myself and know my value. I owe you man'. Maybe not most current or former managers and, when he left, it was a bitch for me. But THAT was always my goal. I'm the only person who knows how to set our bell timer as it's some European brand with terrible instructions (I work production so it's easier for everybody to have a bell reminder for break / lunch times as it can get loud on the floor.) Over the last year I've increased both 15 minute breaks and the lunch break by 5 minutes. Nobody has noticed but everybody seems to enjoy it.
