The agency I interviewed with today said I could be placed quickly if I were looking for a temporary to permanent position. Otherwise, they have nothing for me right now. I understand why that is the case, but I think it's funny that companies use temp agencies because they don't want to immediately commit to an employee or pay then benefits (in a lot of cases) but the employee must immediately be willing to commit to them.
What happened to “no contract no work?”
The contract for 22,000 West Coast dockworkers expires at midnight, tonight. The current contract, negotiated by the ILWU, has a “no-strike” clause, however that, also expires at midnight. While a deal is not going to get done before then, the ILWU hasn't even presented members with the outline of a contract, instead telling workers, and Wall Street, that dockworkers will continue to work, perhaps for months without a contract. Why hasn't the ILWU called for a strike authorization vote? In fact, it seems the union has already ruled out a strike before members get a say. ILWU Pres Willie Adams has been meeting behind closed doors with the PMA and the Biden administration for nearly a year. What are they talking about, besides the fact that there must be “no work stoppages or lockouts?” Why has the ILWU ruled out a strike? This only strengthens the hands of the bosses.…
Today the Supreme Court (sic) basically said that government can't delegate regulation to any agency, it can only pass laws. That means the EPA can't regulate carbon emissions, or pollution, unless each and every chemical is put into a law, and that law also has to have all the details (what kind of muffler, what kind of scrubber, etc). Next up will be food regulation, drug regulation, and work place safety and labor regulation. It is vital you start forming your union now, while its still possible, its vital you start protecting yourself with a contract now before OSHA can no longer make it illegal for workers to be placed in danger. We are heading back to the Lochner era folks (google it), this court is extreme beyond imagination and if we don't do something we will all end up little better than serfs, or even slaves. Today I urge…
I hate work but I fear being a nobody
So with Roe vs Wade news coming out last week, I decided to show solidarity with women everywhere and get a vasectomy. I told my boss in so many words I’m worried about knocking up my hot girlfriend as we are very anti-children since the society we live in today is not suitable to raise a child. My boss told me that since a vasectomy is elective surgery, the company will not be approving my PTO request. I need this job so I don’t really know what to do. And to answer some questions which I’m sure I’ll get: 1) I’m allergic to latex and sheepskin so condoms are out. 2) my stacked girlfriend can’t go on birth control because of the reactions her body has to them. 3) I’m not going to stop fucking because a bunch of ghouls on the Supreme Court have decided to police my attractive…
I was hired as a contractor to a 99% remote position. This means I would only be required in office during big transitions of our project that would be difficult to explain without everyone present. 2 months ago the company I'm contracted to put a directive out that everyone would be required in office Wednesday and Thursday. It's a 1 hr commute there and a 2 hr commute home. I told my manager no. A few weeks ago my manager told me my performance was falling(it wasnt I'm a top performer on my team) and he will need me to come in on those days. I probably messed up here and told him “I understand”. I just did it for 2 weeks and out of 40 cubicles, my team of 3 were the only ppl there. Not even my manager showed up. Today I refused to go in. I texted…
I have worked at my current employer for 11 long years, and while I gained fantastic experience, the pay is woeful. My payrise this year was only 5% (increased from 2.75% because my role was considered a “flight risk”) At the same time, we have been pushed into a return to the office despite functioning perfectly well at home. Well today I was offered a new job, in my current function, but in an exciting field, and the salary is a full 36% higher. When I told my manager I had accepted this offer, he had the cheek to tell me that I was making a mistake. Said that I shouldn't take a job only because it paid more. He never said congratulations. Money is the only reason I work. There is no other reason. It is my sole motivator. They were right when they said we were flight risks,…
