Worst job experience I’ve had. Was fired for not coming in on my day off

I used to work at this little cafe in my town and it seemed like a decent job until the day I met the owner. This guy was batshit crazy and would go off on anyone at anytime for no reason. He would yell and scream at the manager, cooks, servers and even customers. He took me in the back once and yelled in my face for having my elbows on the counter before taking someone's order at the front register. Anytime he would pull into the parking lot outside we would all brace for a shitstorm of rage. One day my manager texted me on my day off and asked if I could come in because they were short. I quickly made an excuse and said I couldn't because of a dentist appointment. I wasn't actually busy, just had no desire to come into work to get bitched at.…

How much would you let a job affect your mental health before you quit?

Basically what the title says. I've had anxiety and depression my whole life and I know I have to push through some amount of discomfort on a daily basis because of that. But for the last few months a combination of changes at work and changes in my personal life have gotten me to the point where I feel sick with anxiety on a near daily basis. I can't decide what to do. I don't think I'd be this miserable if I was in another job, but who knows. I also have some savings and was thinking maybe I should just use them to spend a few months not working because I don't even know what I'm saving for anyway. I guess I just want to hear some stories about people who have been through something similar, if you're willing to share.

Got passed for the annual salary increase because my salary is already “quite high” for the grade band. I have no way of knowing this.

Last week I received only a lump sum payment on my payslip when I expected it to be an increase on my base. I asked my manager about it and he said that's because according to him my salary is already quite high for my grade and hopefully the grades will be adjusted next year. We will have a region-wide business meeting soon and I thought about this would be a good idea to ask anonymously. Any thoughts? Additional info: Company is doing great and my last performance review has met all expectations.

Question about Covid laws

I’ve been at a minimum wage job for about 5 weeks now in New York State, and 2 weeks ago i overhear a coworker say “Wasn’t (coworker) supposed to work today?” And my boss said “No, (coworker) has Covid. The bosses there told nobody that we were exposed to Covid(I asked others and they didn’t know either) and I was the only one who got it from him, still haven’t made a full physical recovery yet but I have been required to work. I had been sick for a few days prior to this so I immediately took a test after going home the day of this conversation, which was obviously positive. To make matters worse, this is a restaurant so my coworker and I could’ve infected customers unknowingly. Later, one boss said I would get paid for the time I would’ve worked but had Covid and another said I…

boss acting like he doesn’t know what severance pay is

I'm not sure what to do. My oldest daughter took a bad fall at the end of the summer this year. It's turned out that I need to quit my job in order to fully address this issue. She's experiencing seizures, etc. I asked for severance pay and was told there isn't severance pay per se…just a payout of my vacation and sick time. I'm not sure how to word my response. He's been a really kind guy related to this injury and I'm disappointed I can't continue with them. I'm hoping to be rehireable as well in the future but truly need this money. Any advice? Edit: sorry guys, I'm not using the correct term. I'm referring to the payout specifically laid out in my contract related to family sick leave. It's been determined an emergency and as a federal employee I was told, in contract, that I'd be…

I just made a post venting about the company I just working for and now I’m curious, what was your moment when you decided “fuck this, these people don’t deserve me” and left?

I’m sure this has been posted before, likely many times, but I’d just love to hear some other examples of people realizing they’re not being respected as they deserved and had enough. Please vent it all out. I’m already in a “burn it all down” kind of mood and would love some more kindling to my fire

Company I work for has manager position opening posted on multiple sites, but when I asked to be considered for position its all of a sudden not available.

I work for a smaller medium sized company that prides themselves on promoting from within and has many people that have worked their way up. I have been with them for 3.5 years in the same position and I am one of the strongest people in my role. I have been told that by multiple people in higher positions and have been given extra responsibilities that back it up (training new hires, shift supervisor, handling important clients, helping out at other locations, etc) and was even told less than a week ago that the initiative that I have shown has far exceeded their expectations. So, I decided that it’s time to move up. I went on the website and saw that they have a job opening for a management position in my department. Out of curiosity I checked other hiring sites (Indeed, Zip recruiter, etc) and see the same job…

I WFH and quit my job. Haven’t told anyone though. Don’t plan to either.

Kinda curious how long this will last. Perhaps a “why?” is appropriate. I'm a gen x'er in a tech adjacent field and work in sales enablement. Sales teams are highly comped, selfish, lazy and will only work where commission is involved. My role is to ensure client value/vision/desired outcomes are realized post sale. There is absolutely no incentive for me to work (uncompetitive pay/comp/benefits,, strength of dollar relative to cost of goods) and good work is only rewarded with more work. Get better/more effective at your job, guess what you earned… Boomer Management has recently recognized that the world is changing and they haven't been able to keep up. They're strategy is “I don't really understand and need you to explain it to me” and “I need you to simplify the process, identify it end-to-end, codify it, build use cases, complete proof-of-concepts and then train the sales team… on how…
