Hi. Ok so I frequently complete my work earlier than my manager expects. I have so much free time during workweek. I keep my work computer on from 9am to 5pm to check new emails for new tasks but I rarely get new tasks. My manager said she doesn't know what to give this week lol. Yesterday I spent the day watching Netflix on my personal laptop and waiting for a new task that never came. I am not complaining but I am an intern for 10 weeks and I want to make sure I get a fulltime role.
Month: June 2022
This place I worked for about 5 months was the weirder work experience I've ever had. I don't even know where to begin because there would be so much to write. The woman who trained me said she was not trained in the position and trained herself and the guy before her didn't do anything and was let go. Meanwhile, this room is blasting AC all day and is incredibly cold, so cold that you wouldn't want to stay in it and it would affect your work performance. The training from her was poor and I didn't get my IT privileges until after two months which meant I couldn't do anything. In the meantime when there was nothing to do I studied UX design to have a new skill. I have many years of IT experience and a Master's in I.T. It was a third party and I was salaried…

So, for background, I work in retail (bowling alley), make $12 an hour (which is barely above minimum wage where I live), and I'm available Fri-Wed… or I'm supposed to be. As of the past three weeks, I've been struggling with my bosses to get my availability approved as I had written on my application that I was available on Fri-Wed (explicitly no Thursday), and they have not done that. The first week, my GM told me to update it on our scheduling app, which I did on June 3rd (still has not been approved) The second week was my actual boss asking me to come in, but I was like “Hell no I can't, it was outside of my availability.” Now, the third week was the worst as my boss pulled me aside with another manager and basically told me “We don't care about your availability, you signed up…

Who cares that you’re sick?
I called this weekend informing one of my bosses I had a gnarly cough and potentially Covid. I was told to grab some cough drops and come into work anyway. I did; Saturday and Sunday, 7hrs of hacking up my lungs and sneezing in front of customers while handling food. Now me and my entire family have tested positive for Covid and I still get to go into work. I make $150 a check if I’m lucky and MAYBE $5 in tips. This is not worth it.
I feel conflicted on this because this isn't a situation where they're just refusing to pay me. They've also been decent (not great, but decent) employers generally speaking. Anyway, they are a small business and pay via check. They don't do direct deposit. First 3 or 4 paychecks were fine. Then I get my paycheck from last week. I deposit it, it goes through, and then it gets withdrawn because my employer has “insufficient funds”. Employers say its a one time blip, that their account got hacked and they had to close it immediately and now it's solved. They re pay me in cash and cover the fee my bank charged. Flash forward to today- I deposited this week's check on Monday and now the exact same thing happened. They put a hold on my account too which luckily I was able to undo for now but like…seriously? I called…
