Hurricane pay – FL problems

As you probably know, a devastating hurricane hit Florida really bad this week. On Monday night, we received an email from HR saying that the offices will be closed through Thursday because of said hurricane and that we will receive pay for the days we had to miss. Fast forward to today and we come in the office with an email saying they’re not paying for the time we had to miss and we have to use our PTO. I work at a very large and very RICH law firm. I am beyond pissed. How can they say that and then take it back!?

Employer unapproved a timesheet because I’ve been sick

So I work at an elementary school as a paraprofessional working with special ed students. The first week or so of every year is incredibly hectic, and I ended up going without a lunch break on 2 of those days. After some cajoling, I was able to get my principal to hand me a time sheet, which she insisted wouldn't be approved anyway. After some back and forth (and some great co-workers having my back), I was able to get the 2 hours. Fast forward to this past week and I've come down with bronchitis, having to take a few days off. Tried to go back in on Wednesday and almost threw up from a hacking fit, so I ended up going home and taking a few more days off. Today, I get an email from my school principal telling me they've “re-reviewed” my timesheets and are now taking back…

Employers and prospective employees should normalize a “2-week rule” when evaluating candidates

I’ve read various articles from the employer perspective complaining about people not wanting jobs or having candidates ghost them. I have a lot of people in my life currently looking and actively interviewing for jobs with open availability for calls and start dates. On average, they’ve been waiting 7-14 WEEKS to hear any decision and they often have to pester the recruiter/hiring manager for updates. Waiting that long for them to make a decision is absolutely absurd. We should normalize a 2-week rule from when you start interviewing a candidate. If you can’t get your shit together in 2 weeks to make a decision on a candidate then you really aren’t prioritizing someone that you’re expecting to prioritize your company. It’s ridiculous to expect someone to stay interested and excited about a position when you’re taking months to just get them interviewed.

I’ve made a terrible mistake accepting an in-office position

Despite what seemed like a substantial increase ($20k), due to commuting (i was previously working from home), I'm only taking home an extra $400/month but im losing 20hrs+/week of productivity/personal time by needing to go into the office It also seems like there will be long stretches of lots of unpaid OT this is not worth $400. I would pay $400 to stay home. what have I done

A tech company asked me what the worst experience at my recent school was. I told them. Then they hired him.

I’m a recent graduate from a coding bootcamp. The final project is building an app for a real world client. We got split into teams and I thought mine was superpowered. Well… with one exception. So, we got to work the first weekend and everyone agreed on what their weekend assignment was. This guy in particular (let’s call him Eric) went completely radio silent for the whole weekend. Then on Monday we asked what he had done and he said he had decided to do something completely different. We told him not to do that again. But he did. Again and again. At the end of the day he honestly only touched three parts of the app and they’re all glitchy. The other three of us spent the last day before we had to present it rebuilding Eric’s assignments and also taking on the thing he had said he would…
