Really, I need $2500. I took out a loan 2 years ago and paid it on time every single month. I have a new job that is still kicking off so I have been considerably poorer these past few months and the loan went into default. I spoke to the debt collector today and he said that since my payment history was immaculate, my loan company will waive HALF of what is left if I can pay them in full by the end of next week. Obviously I don't have that, but the opportunity to eliminate $2000 worth of debt and get a loan payment out of the way is too good to pass up. So I have no idea what to do now. I don't think I know a single person that just has $2500 laying around, so does anyone have advice on how I could raise that much…

Antiwork, what do I do here?
Sketchy Job Offer
Hi all, Long time lurker first time poster here, I know the whole point of this community is to be against work but sadly a mans gotta eat. I've been applying for a million places with very little response for a while now and at this point I'm about ready to lose it, when suddenly I hear back from a Saba Construction Co. They tell me they have super flexible hours, pretty decent pay, and all remote. It sounds great…… too great so I do some digging. They have a website that looks super clean and professional but almost no presence anywhere else. I'm pretty desperate and want to believe it's real but something feels off. How do you, the people of Reddit determine whether or not a job is legit? I'm looking for any advice at all.
TLDR: former company is 2 months late on final severance payment. I live in California Hi! This is my first time posting on Reddit. It’s long so I really appreciate you taking the time to read. First, important to note that I have lived in Santa Monica, CA since 2019. The company was based in California since inception 2015/2016, but moved to Texas in 2021, and still has a CA mailbox. I was laid off from my job of 5 years in June. The company hadn’t been doing well financially, and eliminated my position (amongst others). A few people quit around this time, and I know one that stayed got a salary decrease. On a call with the CEO and Director of Finance, they verbally agreed to a 2 month severance: one month to be paid in full by June 30 and one month to be paid in full by…
I’m not really antiwork.. I don’t think?
The more i think about it I realise I actually like work. I like putting my name to something I have produced and am proud of, I like challenging problems which I can lean on an experienced mentor for some guidance with. I like hanging out with people I usually wouldn’t though sometimes this is challenging. I kinda like putting on my suit everyday, I think I look in them. What I don’t like is the bullshit hierarchy based of irrelevant credentials, I don’t like seeing my coworkers cry because they lack psychological safety or financial safety to that point. I don’t like the exploitation of others good natures.
Basically, I want to have my hours reduced to 20 according to the terms of my employment. Asked my manager and they said it’s not possible because we’re short staffed. When I was in training and we were still short-staffed, we got covers from other locations multiple times so I know it’s just a BS excuse. I’m willing to compromise and give them an ultimatum: “Reduce my hours to twenty or give me full-time benefits.” Can my employer just say no and force me to accept the situation or quit?
