I work at a restaurant. I usually work 5 days a week. This year would be my 3rd Christmas I have worked in a row. I mentioned to one of my managers and asked if I could request it off this year. He said if I were to do so the scheduling manager would probably start scheduling me one day a week, which is unlivable. Is this fair, and is he allowed to do this?

I'm fairly certain my employment at [temporarily redacted] is going to end soon. No, it isn't because I didn't “get it” while employed here, I'm actually a dependable worker with nearly 20 years of relevant industry experience in my chosen line of work. I have every intention of working until I'm fired, though. (What that work entails, I don't know. I'm not doing anything I was hired to work on) I've been focusing that pent-up frustration on going out and actively exploring job opportunities from other businesses in the area or remotely. I suck at interviewing TL;DR – Are there any peer groups out there that help people with the interview process? Coaching? Workshops? This is a skill I am going to need to triage and tend to right away if I'm going to keep drawing a paycheck. My Thursday afternoon epiphany follows. Interviewing isn't my strong suit. I realized…
Sick of Office Politics
I’m tired of needing to play office politics or to suck up to unqualified people in order to beg for a promotion or raise. I’m tired of my work not speaking for itself. It doesn’t matter how good I am at my job, or if I go above and beyond. I’m just so tired of office politics and it effecting all my chances and making a decent income.
“Required” to pay back training costs
I put in my notice with my boss, I had only been there a few months. I had been hired by someone I knew personally, and somehow she ended up being my direct supervisor (red flag). I wasn’t getting the hours I was promised upon hire, and also could just tell the company wasn’t a good fit for me and it was making me miserable. Like my mental health has been BAD and I’m hardly able to focus on the job or get through the day without crying. I did feel I experienced a lack of professionalism with this company in general but hugely a problem was deliverance of constructive feedback. For example, her sending me screenshots from her own private conversations discussing me with clients (I’d be livid if I was a client and learned that) and just general snark when I made a mistake and was asked to…
I have a coworker that I have told I have a disorder but she keeps acting like me not eating lunch with them makes me not a team player. She keeps saying I'm not a team player,, she keeps micromanaging and criticizing every little thing I do, she's caused panic attacks and laughed at me for them. I stood up for myself once in a calm way and she threw a tantrum and said I was yelling at her. This has happened twice. The first time I was pulled in to my bosses office and they made me sit through a panic attack while I was hyperventilating so she could vent her tantrum. She smirked at me when I tried to remind her a had a disorder. This happened again and management just keeps saying they're “coaching her” with her behavior. I'm looking for other jobs but how do I…
Stay home stay safe.
Here in Florida we were hit by hurricane Ian . Here in Ocala we were not hit not as bad as the south of the State . They are still telling people to stay home to be safe. The radio has been announcing businesses that are open. Talk about concern over the day of you employees and customers/s
This is more of a rant. This makes me MAD! I am in a geography course at the moment and it is currently talking about over-consumption and Sustainable Development Goals. I know people in general often overindulge, but I think restaurants and other food stores are a major/bigger part of the problem. At my old work (We sold bulk foods). We would have to throw out over 100 KILOGRAMS of food/candy that was perfectly fine to be donated elsewhere or taken by employees, but we weren't allowed to take it. It used to make me so mad because it could be donated to the homeless or to someone who needs it. My brother has worked at 3 restaurants, all of which throw out left-over/uncooked food left and right and the employees are not allowed to take it either, and are often threatened with termination if they want to take it.…
One of Apple’s most senior executives is leaving the company after he turned up in this viral video on TikTok He said “I have rich cars, play golf and fondle big-breasted women”https://t.co/xBUPaVvKla pic.twitter.com/cotxfniLqr— philip lewis (@Phil_Lewis_) September 29, 2022
I work as a secretary on a team of 7 people. My boss (who I like) is trying to get our workload lowered by encouraging management to get more hires and trying to make the case that we are overtaxed and overburdened with work. As such she has consulted with a supervisor who has asked us to fill out a productivity log. Here is the problem. I resoundingly am not overtaxed. IMHO I am quite good at my job, I keep the people I work for happy and i get the shit they need done quickly and efficiently. But the vast majority of the time (especially when working at home which is 6 out of 7 working days)… I zone out, play video games, and pet my cat while waiting for the next thing to do. As my pay is on the lower scale of secretaries in the city I…
