Educational Elitism
I have a great friend who is a school administrator who is as far left as they come . Yet , he still makes remarks about “unskilled labor “ that are offensive to someone who so called “fits “ that bill . Even though it does not apply to me , it’s strike me as a big issue in our society on human value . It’s so bizarre , someone who so liberal and anti capitalist would still be this way .
Work myself out of a job
My last job was in manufacturing, building semiconductor tools. I had the “honor” of being selected to be a part of revamping the instructions we used to build everything. They said they wanted the instructions to be so clear that a 3rd grader could understand them. Most of us at the time were skilled at reading the engineering diagrams when our instructions failed us. Their end goal was to hire people at lower wages since it required less skill. So to repeat most everyone else in this sub, they don’t care about you. They want to pay you as little as possible. And they are constantly figuring out how.
That’s basically it. Got a group wide text among all my coworkers today saying we would be made to pay off tabs that go unpaid and we don’t hold onto the cards for. I work for a bar in Oregon and haven’t accidentally left a tab open like this before. There are definitely regulars that get a lot of grace period to leave an open tab and come close it later because we know they’ll be back, but in some cases I’ve held onto ID’s and let someone use Apple Pay when closing out so the potential could be there if someone decided to leave their id or forgot to close out before leaving. Is this legal? I will likely delete this thread if I get enough info, I’m more than a little annoyed with this policy.
Should be the spirit of anti-work.?
Anyone know a good employment lawyer?
A while back, I submitted an “anonymous” whistleblower report. For some time, there was no response or update. On Thursday, the report was closed. An internal investigation showed no evidence. On Friday, I was fired, citing my “performance”. The HR rep associated with both the investigation and my termination docs was the same person, someone I'd never worked with before. Yeah, at will employment, burden of proof, coincidence, correlation isn't cause, etc. There's more to it than I'm willing to put into reddit ATM.
The power of no.
Two years ago I decided to stop telling employers why I needed days off. I am so tired of overly entitled “managers” trying to decide which part of the human experience is acceptable for me to experience. One of my kids has a birthday? I’m not working. I ate too much in the middle of the night? No work. When pressed about the why I simply state, “I’m very sorry, but it’s personal.” If they continue to press? “I can’t, I’m sorry.” Press more? “Listen, I can’t be there.” No more responses. Three strikes and done. Haven’t been fired in two years. These people KNOW they need us. Don’t let petulant adult-babies control your life.
