I had 2 people meant to relieve me, both were 2 hours late without saying anything. I stayed, and missed a call from my doctor in the commotion. I've been trying to get ahold of him again for the past 2 weeks. I won't be able to talk to him until the 12th. My GM's schedule had only been up for a week- not 3. He's never shown me a request off form. GM was pulling brutal shifts, and I volunteered to come in early so he could get some sleep. I later learned that the shifts were his fault for refusing to hire an AGM or Front Desk Super. I have a coworker who spends the entire shift doing nothing but abusing me. Last week we overlapped 5 minutes, and she started yelling at me again. When I walked in the back, she yelled louder. So I went upstairs…
Have you tried offering more?
I will try and make this post as concise as possible whilst including the most important details – please let me know if any clarifications are needed! I (26F) am in the UK, and working in a coordination and logistics related role (lots of admin, some tasks involving meeting people onsite to give them paperwork, etc). Some background: For the last few months I have had mobility issues due to extreme pain in my foot which has required me to mostly work from home, as a large part of my commute is on foot. I have to walk around 20 mins to get to the bus route that goes to my work. It hurts to walk for that long. A lot. To do that walk twice a day, 5 days a week, would be agony. I have a doctor's note saying that I “may be fit to work” with “workplace…
I used to have a job that frequently had in-person mandatory meetings every week, and for some strange reason, they were always scheduled on my days off. I was required to come in on my day off, which I was always mad about. I did get paid for being at the meetings, but is this common practice? Is the company allowed to force me to come in on my day off?
*this is going to be a horrific multipart story. Please be patient. It takes a lot of work to do this, and I’m trying to, before they NDA me * I used to be a life-guard assistant at a local pool district. My job was to manage defective pool noodles, in the general pool noodle environment, at this pool. It was the lowest rated pool district in this cheese area, so out of 421 pool districts, mine actively fought to be the lowest ranked pool in the cheese. As you can imagine, some names and titles have been formatted from their original version, in order to fit your screen. And while I don’t want to call a defective pool noodle, defective, for the sake of this story – please accept my sincerest apologies as that is not my normal terminology. It’s a story. A very fictional with no application to…
Back to office anyone?
Is anyone’s company asking for more back to office presence after Labor Day? Mine is. I now have to go in twice a week. I am realizing being in an office 8 hours a day is brutal. At most, I can handle 4-5. Every night before I need to be in person is filled with insomnia and dread. To preserve my mental health I will be quitting in a few weeks.
Quit my job today!
A while ago I got a “fun” second job teaching barre. To be clear, I am ok with the idea of even a fun job still being a job. I was prepared to teach certain days but my boundaries stopped being respected rather quickly. These guys wanted me to work 6+ hours a week unpaid my coworkers just said “ok”. Anyone who ever took issue with their crappy scheduling, or the excessive requests, got shamed. Idk if this is common in the fitness industry but I really cannot tolerate it. I feel really sad because there are a lot of people I will miss. I could not be honest about the reasons I wanted to quit (did NOT feel like a bunch of texting with these stupid managers) but overall I’m happy with my choice.
Manager set me up to be mandated…
Let’s set the scene… She put me on 7-3 today when the schedule came out despite my normal schedule being 3-11. Of course I agreed – 7-3 is an easy shift in the group home I work at and I needed to grocery shop for the home anyway. Well after putting me on, she started bugging me to work a double today instead. I told her numerous times I couldn’t and wouldn’t – I made plans for after work because I rarely have a Sunday night off. Well, I got a call at 1pm from HER boss telling me that the manager never filled the shift and unfortunately I had to stay until 7:00 pm and I was mandated. Just got a text that I will actually be mandated until 11:00 pm because no other staff will answer the phone (I don’t blame them lol). This all comes AFTER that…
I've worked in retail since I started working. I'd been aiming to get out for a while because constantly standing was starting to take a toll. I finally get a cushy admin job and… these jobs are a waste of time and energy. Most frustratingly, there's a bizarre assumption among those whose jobs have only been in offices (or have been in them too long) that their jobs are very important and stressful, and they are very skilled. The barista I go to each morning works harder than everyone in my office. That's not a swipe at baristas – they work their asses off. Answering emails and pushing paper around is not a skill. … I hate offices.
