I had a feeling that I was grossly underpaid. I asked my manager about a raise, so she sent me the salary guide they've been using when making offers to new hires. That very guide, plus some other research I did, showed that I was indeed underpaid by about $35k per year. So I asked for a $35k raise to bring me up to market value. They gave me $8k. I had already been interviewing with another firm, and they offered exactly what I had initially asked for. They were shocked when I put my notice in. Like, really? Y'all give me a document outlining salary ranges, and I use that very same document to make my ask, then come back with a slap in the face offer? And you're surprised I'm leaving? Get bent.
Month: September 2022
I work for a large company that just announced they're forcing people back into the office despite the pandemic still on-going and the inevitable fall/winter COVID case spike. During 2021 they went on a hiring spree and it was pretty widely known that a good chunk of the workforce moved to more affordable parts of my country. The overwhelming majority of coworkers (even directors and middle management) strongly prefer WFH from company surveys and are much more productive WFH (hell we even make record profits in the last 2 years). Forcing people back in the office during the downturn in the markets feels like they're trying to get people living further out to quit so they don't have to do layoffs and avoid having to give severance. While I live downtown by my workplace, it would literally be impossible for some of my coworkers to make it to the office…
I’ve heard it so many times and I laugh in their fucking face. So you really expect me to take my ass home after a 12 hour day of you acting like I’m your bitch and spend all of the time I have left in my days to learn about the job I just came home from because you couldn’t bear the patience to explain it while I was right fucking there? And you want me to do it for free like I have nothing else to do in life? They just expect you to live for their business lol fuck everyone like this

I don’t respect most CEOs
Those who work a job that is done on a computer can do it from anywhere in the world that has a stable internet connection and access to electricity. This completely eliminates the need for office space for these jobs. Eliminating the need to commute by car, bus, or train, can cut down dramatically on the amount of traffic and air pollution, years before electric cars make a large impact. Essential Traffic that does exist, such as taxis, emergency vehicles, and trucks used to transport goods, can more easily move on the roadways. In addition, the former offices could be repurposed into apartments/townhomes, which would create much more housing inventory at time where there is a shortage. When the number of units expands, the cost of housing will also come down and provide further opportunity for people to have access to affordable housing. Best of all, remote work allows someone…
labor day weekend.
I need advice!! I’ve been going back to school and my job has been super supportive of it up until recently. I communicated with my boss back in April about my Fall schedule. There’s 1 class in particular that is a year long class, meaning I HAVE to take it in the Fall and Spring this year. And the lab that goes along with it. I was very clear about this when taking to my boss about it. Now that school has started, my schedule is an issue… The 1st week of school, they asked my to change my lab time to later in the day. It was stressful and I had to explain to my professors the situation but thankfully they said I could move to a different class. The 2nd week of school, this past Thursday, my managers pulled me aside and told me that my later scheduled…
