Our company's system will automatically lock an account if the customer makes 5 unsuccessful sign in attempts. This is to protect the accounts in case someone is trying to brute force their way in. We cannot override the lock out and the customers will have to wait until the next morning to sign in again. However, there is a message that pops up when the account is locked, telling them to call in to have the account unlocked. You can see how this would be a problem. I just got a bad review because I had to tell the customer that we can't override and unlock the account and apologized for any confusion or frustration that was caused by the incorrect message. When I brought this up with my supervisor, I was told that it was due to my verbiage and not that the site set up an expectation we…

“Labor Day plans?”
Not my story, but my coworker's in my grocery store department: Apparently one of the co-owners of our company (a family business) asked her and a couple other employees, just to make small talk, “What are you guys doing for Labor Day?” and they had to go, “…We're working.” Like yeah, we don't all get our fun barbecues, some of us are making money for you! 🙂
As employee, you have certain rights that employers will happily gallop over if you let them. Find out what your rights are, how to report an employer, whether at the State level or Federal level. If you are a member of a Union, they should be able to do this for you. But otherwise, protect yourself by knowing what's what. Also be SURE to document everything! If you get some dicey instructions or directions, ask them to send you an email so you can be sure to understand properly. Document everything. Time, date, circumstances. Keep a “Work Diary.”
A Landlords response to being called ou
It’s pretty rich the people who actually get this holiday off are usually the ones that don’t need it because they have actual holiday time but that’s okay. A fun bullshit example: I used to work at a store that gave 1.5x wage for working federal holidays, but you had to also work the day before and after “otherwise you’d just take the extra cash and have your long weekend earlier or later” as if that isn’t the actual point. Or they’d reduce everyone’s hours by the amount you’d make extra, so sure you work 4 hours less and make the same pay, but you could’ve earned a 4 extra hours if they scheduled you like you normally are, even though the store is open it’s usual hours. Fun! I wish we had real compensation for having lose out on long weekends because we all know the higher ups are…
Since the conversation about forgiving student loan debt is heating up, I thought I'd share a website I created on declaring bankruptcy on Canada Student Loans. There's a lot of conflicting info online, so I basically just blogged my experience. This is obviously geographically specific, but I hope it's useful to someone out there: https://bankruptstudentloan.wordpress.com/ This post was previously removed as it was deemed “off topic.” I hope the Mods can appreciate that under the realm of Anti-Work we should also consider the importance of resisting government institutional pressures that keep people in poverty. If we are Anti-Work, we should also be anti-debt as low wages, precarious labour, and an economic pressures all work together to pacify and alienate us.
Hi, all. This happened a couple months ago, but I feel like sharing. For years, I attended and then volunteered at a local art camp. Once COVID numbers settled down, the camp’s owner offered me a paid summer job. I said yes. Some background on how this camp works: the campers range in age from 6 to 11, though most are on the younger side. The camp’s owner (and by extension, my boss) is a trained artist who does step-by-step drawings with the kids. My job was to lead half of the kids in a craft project while my boss taught the other half. Now, I’d known my boss for many years, both as a camper and volunteer. Her personality was such that she could get very particular and snippy about things, though yelling and outright abuse never occurred. I’d brushed this off as a camper and volunteer, but being…
