My partner and I have been working at a seasonal job on the pier for the past two years, I absolutely loved this job, from the pay to the co workers; it was great. This year did a complete 180°, the owner started to over work everyone and completely disregard everyone’s schedule. Like I said this was seasonal and most of us had other jobs, we all only came back because the pay was good and we genuinely wanted to help out the owner. Along with that he started to put people in for 50-60hrs a week, on holidays we would be working 13+ hrs and we would never get overtime or time and a half because it’s not required with seasonal work. He also fired the manager of 5 years without warning and told some previous employees that they were welcome to come back but once they quit their…
Month: September 2022
This will be LONG so I apologize and I may be all over the place as I have trouble explaining myself thoroughly and getting every point in there, so work with me. There will be a couple edits lol. I started this Job at a Warehouse about 3 months ago. My friend had put me onto the job and we started the job together same day. When we get in, they show us around the building, then they start you in a random position to see how you will do. Newer people/people with same pay as me, move pretty consistently around the warehouse through a couple different positions, only people who operate/fix machinery or ride forklifts stay where they are at. Also to add to this, the position I do, there is two sides to it and you have one person per side. In my three months being there, atleast…
Guess what happen?…
Let me get this straight…
I go to college to study a field that doesn't interest me but allows me to make money from activities I don't enjoy. I end up in debt or financially unstable to get a “proper” education. Then, almost broke, I have to BEG for a job and comply with sh*tty working conditions, so I can make a profit for a company that doesn't care about me. That, of course, provided that you have 10 years of experience right after graduating. But don't be too old either – We don't want people over 40 working for us. So let me get this straight. Companies need us workers. They do. We're profitable. But we're still the ones to beg for a miserable job and paycheck after ending up in debt in college. The world would be much better if companies were the ones to invest in workers from the get-go. Teach them…
Unsure about how hourly pay works
I've been salaried for a long time, but now I'm working an hourly job, and I'm not sure about the specifics. If I clock in/out and I have, say 8 hours and 15 minutes, am I paid for the 15 minutes? Or does that just go away? Are we only paid for a full hour worked? Thank you.
This is the most screwed up thing I've read in a long time. It's proof that economists and the fed are working to suppress wages for the oligarchs.
I'm pleased to share that a previous company I worked at but still have a few friends there, has given in. One of the ex-workers is going back to the company as they increased their pay by $7/hour. I could write a novel or at least a lengthy page of why and how the company and specifically the department was left with only management left working*. Instead, I'll save the readers a lot of time and summarize. The company has been making record breaking profits year after year and the workload has increased yearly, without respectable increases, work-life balance or hiring more workers. They downsized their corporate office, not the people, the work and sent it to the sites. Then downsized the sites, the people, not the work. This resulted in a collapse of the department which had a domino effect to the entire site and so-on. I would like…
I've been with my employer for 15 years. I loved working there for the majority of those 15 years. This last year made me realize that my employer, The City of Phoenix, was just as bad as any shitty corporation out there. We are unionized. But unfortunately the union is neutered. Completely devoid of any strength and they lack the balls to stand up for the workers outside of miniscule things. The union can't even call for a strike! In fact, there's really no repercussions for the city or it's shitty management when they mistreat workers outside of a strongly worded email that eventually goes nowhere. Two weeks ago our Human Resources director informed us that as of September, ALL covid considerations will be null and void and that covid will be treated no worse than the common cold or flu. Up until July of this year, the city was…
