Called in sick then quit
So i worked in this dispensary and within 3 weeks of employment i called osha on them because they wanted me to use the bathroom outside like a dog (not an outhouse a fucking bush). Ever since then it has been nothing but passive. It ranged from them making me do stuff not in my job description. They gave me the shittiest schedules and refused to give me any overtime after that. Also they refused any pto i would request. Where i drew the line was i work at a desk job and they were trying to have me stand all shift because it would increase “productivity”. They also wanted me to pick up trash and do fucking gardening duties like wtf. I ended up calling in sick and went and turned in my keys that same day because even Hr was okay with this treatment. I plan on filing…
Tired of being a employee? Good. Be your own fucking boss instead.
You can’t go to that free conference…
I was working at a job that I hated. With a passion. Not the work, but the people. The project I'd been working on came to an end and we got shifted into another team with a manager who resented that she'd not been involved with the project and that her new team knew more about it than she did. Anyway, four months later, an annual conference was being held in the Netherlands. It was free to attend, and I did every year through the project. I spoke to my manager and was told 'no, you're not going. We're not sending anyone'. I was pissed. This conference is hugely useful to my job role and was free. And these were the days of UK EU membership so going to the Netherlands cost basically next to nothing. So, I book myself a week's leave and book my own flights and hotel,…
Need some perspective
Burner account here and story time. I had a verbal discussion the other day with my manager that I’d like some feedback on. I’m an RN and I was out with COVID a few pay periods ago and had to take PTO to cover time lost. I used all the sick hours I had and then used annual hrs to cover the rest. The annual hrs were approved by my assistant mangers in our system and sent to the timekeeper where I found only part of my approved hours were paid out but benefit hours were taken out. I sent an email to the timekeeper and managers and asked it be paid out citing our policy which says that annual PTO can be used for personal and emergency needs. I was told that there is a new policy (even though the one I cited is still in effect) that states…
Column: The key to union resurgence is repeal of the Taft-Hartley Act By Michael Hiltzik, Oct. 2019 Copy-paste of the article: Labor advocates and critics alike can debate the reasons for the decline of union membership in America over the last seven decades, but one event gets the nod from both sides as a major obstacle to union organizing. It’s the passage in 1947 of the Taft-Hartley Act. “Taft-Hartley was devastating to labor,” the former (and reformed) union-buster Martin Jay Levitt wrote in 1993. In labor relations, he observed, management always had the upper hand. But after Taft-Hartley, “the bosses could once again wage their war with near impunity.” So it’s understandable that the two most progressive candidates running for the Democratic nomination for president, Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, have called for repeal of sections of the act. But have they gone far enough?…
Employer Told Me How to Vote
My employer sent an email about the upcoming elections in my State, encouraging us to vote. I thought that was pretty cool. They talked about trying to influence people close to us which seemed kind of weird, but whatever. They had sample ballots available at the front of the shop, also cool. They only had Republican ballots. On top of that, the sample ballots were already filled out, telling us how they want us to vote. I don't think that's illegal, but it should be.
Christ’s message has been co-opted
What does Jesus mean by calling us to give up all our possessions? We are to not identify with worldly things; we become eternal Spirit over temporary flesh. The old order, based on conflicts over resources, is falling away. Christ calls us to base our relationships with each other on love and service, not exploitation. (One Hindu Guru has also said to become enlightened, one must serve and feed people.) Can you imagine a society where we do not own possessions? Would this be Utopia (Heaven on Earth)? Is this kind of love, a love that expands the circle of family, the path forward to an egalitarian society? We would actually need to care for our neighbors, even with no financial compensation. Christ taught us how to enact God's will here on Earth! We actually are to use our voices and hands to care for each other. Money is arbitrary.…
