Need some perspective Burner account here and story time. I had a verbal discussion the other day with my manager that I’d like some feedback on. I’m an RN and I was out with COVID a few pay periods ago and had to take PTO to cover time lost. I used all the sick hours I had and then used annual hrs to cover the rest. The annual hrs were approved by my assistant mangers in our system and sent to the timekeeper where I found only part of my approved hours were paid out but benefit hours were taken out. I sent an email to the timekeeper and managers and asked it be paid out citing our policy which says that annual PTO can be used for personal and emergency needs. I was told that there is a new policy (even though the one I cited is still in…
Month: September 2022
This was winter of 2019 right before New Years, a manager I had worked for previously was helping open a restaurant/dance club “speak easy” at a local mall. I was offered a bartending position and accepted as the job sounded interesting and fun. When I accepted the position the bar was far from finished, they were still doing construction on the downstairs restaurant and the upstairs was a mess, only the stage was put together. I was asked to help get things ready and as I had already finished my 2 weeks notice weeks before, as construction kept being delayed, I happily agreed to help get things ready. I ended up working about 40 hours in 3 days trying to get that place open for New Years. I loaded couches up 2 flights of stairs, assembled every table in the building, cleaned and set up the bar, and basically worked…
Employer doesn’t give lunch break
My employer doesn’t give lunch break but takes away a hour worth of pay from my check automatically each day. Is this legal in Texas?
I’m sure they were hurting after the $2.13/hr they paid all of us….

Suing former employer for unpaid wages
Found out big chain auto repair company I was working for was time shaving for the 3 years I was there. A lawyer took my case but found I “e-signed” an arbitration agreement. I never signed such a thing and I mentioned to the mediator that this company is notorious for sharing employee passwords in the shop to get everyone caught up on online training and other documents that need attention every once in awhile. After a year we are finally coming to a settlement but it's only in the 4 digits. It's mainly unpaid wages but I wanted to sue big. The manager would have me come in on my days off and tell me not to clock in, double shifts (open and close the store 7am-7pm) but only get paid for 8 hours. I did this to be a team player and rise up the ranks which have…
A positive update?
Not sure if this belongs here but I’ve been following antiwork for a while and I must say I’m so on board with pretty much everything. It’s changed my perspective on work culture and I’m so here for it. As a working woman, a mom of two small children, antiwork culture SPEAKS TO ME. I was previously working a decent job with decent pay but the clock in and clock out work culture was killing me. I was constantly checking my time card and eating into my sick/vacation time to compensate for kid schedule and appointments. Among other things, I was unhappy. ANYWAY I got a new job and my boss is so much more chill. I don’t have to clock in or clock out. I got a 40% raise. I have freedom to do what I want when I want with minimal checkins and I get to work from…
