Posting for an older gentleman who doesn't know what Reddit is but wants the thoughts of the community. The employer (a landscaping service inside of a large enterprise organization) has some concerns with the performance of an employee, we'll call them Jessica. The older gentleman on whose behalf I am posting is Jessica's Dad. Instead of discussing these concerns with Jessica and relevant potential changes in work responsibilities they contacted Jessica's parents. They explained their concerns and the potential to change which team Jessica worked on (which would mean lower pay, no 401K, moving from a manager they love, etc.) with Jessica's Dad. Dad works for the company that runs this landscaping service. He has a desk job within the main functions of the organization that has nothing to do with landscaping. Jessica's Dad is now very confused about what exactly to do with all this. Dad has asked Jessica…

Currently, we are seeing many people on social media advocating for higher wages, especially minimum wage. At the same time, there is pushback consisting of people stating that higher wages will make inflation worse. It occurs to me that under our current capitalist system, it is absolutely necessary to maintain low incomes in the majority of the population in order for the system to function. (And if so, the system itself MUST be reformed). Here's the logic: The overarching goal of companies is to maximize profit. To do this, they will set prices to the maximum they can before profits start to dip (the “sweet spot” on the price/revenue curve). Increasing salaries (greater wealth in the population) means that people become willing to spend more on the same items. The “sweet spot” price increases, and companies will increase their prices accordingly, to maximize their revenue. This means that market rates…

So I used to work for a company that sells games in a halting sort of fashion. When I was hired I asked for full time hours, which were denied by the first manager but I was given a key holder position with it. 8.75 an hour for part time. I didn't mind because I was working this as a second job while I worked another job later. Then my manager got fired after he got hit by a car trying to stop people from shoplifting and spending a week in the hospital. Because of course the company doesn't care about the person. So they hired a new manager who said 'you know what? We have too many key holders so we're going to demote you, cut your pay, and give you less hours'. So I took it because, again, second job and all. Then I noticed they stopped putting…
(I am fairly new to making reddit posts. If this is formatted incorrectly, please let me know). My little sister just got her first job at a Sephora (MD, USA) a few weeks ago, and she has already noticed poor management. (1) She asked a newer/younger employee what they were getting paid, and found out they were making more. She asked management why someone with less experience than her was getting paid more. The manager took her to the back and yelled at her for discussing wages with coworkers, stating that it's against their “policy” (but didn't show where in the written policy). We know it's illegal for companies to ban wage discussion. What we're having trouble with is getting this in writing, email, etc. (in order to report under the NLRA). Recording without consent is illegal in our state, so that's not an option. The managers are so lazy;…
