Everything is fine except work. I hate it. How do we get out of this.

They're the assistant manager and the general manager position is currently vacant. My partner is an hourly employee who clocks in and clocks out like any other associate but has been getting bombarded with work calls and requests for scheduling at home since the change in leadership. District manager hasn't communicated any intent to upgrade their position to salaried or appoint a new GM. This can't be legal, right? It stinks of wage theft. State is Virginia, sector is retail.
Just a quick one… But I recently decided I needed a change, so started looking round for vacancies. Got two offers: 1.) one from a travel insurance provider doing sales (sounds grim, but it's the one I took, they seem like the lesser of two evils) …and one from Sensée. These fuckers offered me the job and told me: – That as it's a work from home position, I would need to buy my OWN equipment – two 23″ monitors, a unit with at least 8GB of RAM, keyboard, mouse and headset. – I would need to pay for my OWN DBS check priced at around £25. – I, instead of providing references, will need to supply five years worth of BANK STATEMENTS to verify my “activity history” as they call it. I sent the below email to the recruitment lady: ” Just as a point of feedback, I’d have…
I worked in retail auto parts. My manager let the #1 shop customer walk all over him every which way to Saturn any time of the day. I made a small mistake that was quickly corrected, but in that small amount of time the customer called and woke my manager up throwing a huge fit. Manager walks through the front door a bit later immediately laying into me. I try explaining what was going on, but he doesn’t want to hear it and continues to berate me while telling me to shut up. I tell him I’ll talk if I want. He says to clock out and go home (unpaid). I say I quit and hand him the keys.
Thanks for the appreciation, Target!
I work at a call-center and they are having us come in on Labor day for 11 hours. Usually if someone works through the whole day, as I have before, they give you an extended lunch break. For whatever reason, this day we do not get a lunch break. Moreover, we do not get paid time and a half and was told that we only get overtime pay if we work over 48 hours a week. I've been dreading working on Monday because of this but unfortunately I need the money. Their reasoning behind this is that it shouldn't be too busy but that's never a guarantee. So I'm just supposed to starve myself for unlivable wages? It's safe to say that I've applied for other jobs since I found out. I was never one to hold a job for too long because I can't stand being uncomfortable or disrespected…
I've never once worked somewhere who pushed the “this company is a family” on me and I hope I never have to. The day I hear those words is the day I start looking for a new job.
Lasted 2 weeks at my job
I just got a new job because I moved away to go to college. It seemed great, staff was friendly, they could give me the hours I wanted, and I would be making more than enough to live comfortably (though my cost of living is relatively low). The first red flag was definitely partially my fault. Original I agreed to work some sundays, but then found out the bus system wasn’t very reliable those days, and I don’t have my own car. They basically said no? Which again, I totally get that I should’ve learned the bus schedule beforehand, but I have literally no way to get there. Then they just tried to schedule me for 6 nights in a row (which is 42 hours, but within the actual week I was only working 35), when I asked to work 3, maybe 4 if I had shorter shifts. So I…
