I found out recently from my father that my mother was recently a victim of ageism at her job. My mom was having issues with her laptop and called to troubleshoot with her supervisor, who got frustrated with her and not figuring out what was wrong let out her frustrations by saying “I bet it's not the laptop, it's probably because you're too old to figure it out.” Wow, fuck her. Yet my mother didn't report her, didn't lawyer, she just took it on the chin and still works there business as usual. Screwed By Maternity Leave
I was fired from my job 2 days before maternity leave. Now I can’t work because I haven’t been physically cleared to work yet (c-section), but we also can’t afford gas and diapers because my husband is being severely underpaid, and I didn’t save enough because I expected partially paid leave. We have responsibility for 4 boys, so I’ve had to start a GoFundMe to pay for gas and diapers which is hard AF. WTF. The US SUCKS. Why do we have to deal with this?
How do I get out of mandatory overtime?
Everyday I'm on the job I work 12 hours (factory work), and it's not bad. Where it gets bad is whenever the shift after me is short people, I'm forced to work a 16 hour shift. When I get that 16 hour shift I then have 8 hours off before another 12 hour shift or another madatoried 16… It's running me ragged. When I get that 8 hours off, I only sleep like 3 or 4 hours. Unfortunately the mandatories often run concurrent to each other as well. Any tips to get out of this? I can't quit the job. What I'm thinking is there has to be something I can tell a doctor, right? Whether I exhaustion or problems with sleep?? I work with hot and sharp materials… Any advice would help, thank you…
