I work for legal aid. We are unionized (attorneys and non-attorney support staff). We created what we thought was solidified job descriptions for our new contract (we are currently bargaining) and management came back to us with what I think is a shitty proposal. Thoughts?

Soo.. below are the proposals. The yellow is added language and the strikethru stuff is old language from the previous contract. This was our (union's) proposal: https://anonfiles.com/r8od1a61y0/Appendix_B1_Job_Classification_and_Promotion_in_Place_8.23.22_Redacted_pdf This was managements: https://anonfiles.com/q3o31d68yd/Counter_Job_Classification_and_Promotion_in_Place_8.23.22_Redacted_pdf I definitely think their proposal is kinda shitty. At least for the support staff descriptions, we are basically being exploited because they can assign us any work they want at management's discretion. It blows. What do you all think?

The moment I notice I’m being tracked is the moment I no longer care about the job.

I mean – I care to the extent that I want to create something good. But it's when I know I don't love it.

My bosses boss is his wife..

He's been my department head for less than 6 months. Before that he did various other jobs around the large establishment I work at. Now he is my department head plus still does his other jobs. He is barely there and has implemented changes that have made our jobs 10x more difficult. No one will complain because his wife is the GM of the entire establishment. Normally if we had an issue we would go to his wife, no one feel comfortable doing that. I bring up issues with him that everyone has and he takes it as a personal attack, I think his wife would react the same. Example, we were way understaffed and there was way too much work, I asked him what the plan was and he just acted offended and said he was busy sorting an issue out in another department and avoided me the rest…

15% of adults in the United States are unemployable. And with AI that number show only increase.

Should we resist or embrace our AI overlords?

So I work at target.

Target store #1777 Obviously this account is to keep me safe. So I work overnight at target. I clock in and I’m talking with another coworker and one of the leads tells me “zone first, then use the bathroom” I was immediately confused by this and I was talking to my coworker about it. I have been working here for a month and a half now so far. I was caught on my phone two times. The first time sure was fine because you know, I understand. But EVERYONE looks at there phone there. Fast forward to last night, and I clock out and I’m about to walk out and my lead tells me “I know you think you know what you’re doing but don’t get too comfortable. People have to get used to you since you haven’t been working here for long” Everyone here when there’s a problem they…

moldy food update

Hey reddit, quick update here at work about my boss and the moldy food issue I posted about before. He finally got to hiring someone to fix the display cooler, because one of our regulars who comes in the morning had made a huge deal about it when she came in the morning and grabbed a breakfast sandwich from said display that was completely covered in mold. I had heard about it from my morning shift coworker, she had threatened legal action if it happened again (which we had warned my boss that was going to happen) so it's good to know where his priorities lie /s. All in all, I'm just glad the cooler is working properly now, but I forgot to update on you all about this as it happened a few days after I had posted about it

People who celebrate when someone worked till their dying day make me sick.

Like don't get me wrong if that's what they wanted, cool to them. But when someone has to work while handling cancer it blows me away. Maybe I only think this way because I only work physical labor jobs. And if someone is a receptionist they could possibly perform their job without too much suffrage. But at the same time they have cancer, like they don't know if they're going to live, and we're just going to make them work till they die or don't? When will we actually take care of sick people instead of requiring more from them.

I can’t stop thinking about Player Piano

I was a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan in high school. “Player Piano” was probably my favorite book. I've probably read it three or four times. I think about it a lot. At first, it was in a vague abstract way about the difference between blue collar (reeks and wrecks) and white collar (engineers) jobs. The shirt color thing never made sense to me and I always mixed them up. But something as catchy as “reeks and wrecks” sticks with you. I liked that. It made the adult working world make a little more sense to a young me who could never fathom working a 9-5. Then, when choosing a college major and, later, a career, I thought about it. I was always interested in technology and computers and math, but I'd be lying if “Player Piano” didn't influence my decision to go into tech. If that book's dystopia came true,…
