i’ve worked at this gym for a couple months, and several of the HVAC systems have been out since before I started. It’s hot and muggy to varying degrees throughout the gym, and at some times it’s been hard to bear during these heat waves. (I threw up from heat exhaustion my third shift). A member brought in a thermometer and the gym ranges from 83-85 degrees throughout. They’ve sent people to repair it, and they tell us all the coils need to be replaced, but I just found out from my manager that the reason corporate gave for not replacing the coils is because we’re not bringing in enough new members (meanwhile members are cancelling because of the heat). I know I could make a complaint with the Department of Labor, but is there anything else I can do? I’m in NYC

Minimum wage and coffee breaks.
Background information: I used to work trades for years but due to physical problems decided to go to school and recently got a part time job a few days a week. It was at a liquor store and surprisingly physical for minimum wage. The place also has no break room or water cooler which is lame but it's 60 seconds to my house so no biggie. I just found out on shift today that you only get one unpaid half hour break which while legal I have never seen in 10+ years working. So I did the only reasonable thing and walked out mid shift. Sent my boss a text and here we are. TLDR; discovered there aren't coffee breaks and quit on the spot
So we got a new fixed operations manager (glorified service manager) and my pay has steadily decreased because I’m over certified to suit his business model. After 9 months of dealing with his was of running a service department, I reached out to a Lincoln dealership about a shop foreman position. $40,000 pay bump and less time spent beating myself against a ford. I can’t fucking wait to quit and see the look on his face when I refuse to tell him any of the details. I worked for them for 8 years, and I’m only 1 of maybe 10 people who can rebuild a late model transmission in my area. They are going to be crippled because when I leave.
It was basically the end of my shift and i was slightly argumentative about a menial task that was supposed to happen. There was some slight bickering back and forth and then I brought up that he was stealing from us and he told me that I can't do that and that I need to leave. It's Minnesota so technically he can fire me for any reason he wants almost. But there has to be something illegal about that and if so what do I do? I'm sorry if this isn't the place for this but I feel like I can win a case here.
I quit my job yesterday because my boss told me I still had fifteen minutes left on my shift when I was about to clock out, and she freaked out when I realized she was lying. I checked my schedule, which didn't show any changes, and told her she needed to inform me 24 hours in advance if she decides to keep me longer. I turned to leave, and she followed me out the door screaming my name and demanding I give her more of my time. She grabbed me by my backpack to stop me. I told her she was making me uncomfortable, but she basically ignored my request for personal space and kept demanding more of my time or else I wouldn't be compensated. She ran ahead of me to hold the door to block me from leaving, but after yelling “This isn't over!!” she finally let me…
Is Productivity Killing us?

Why is it that every job sucks either for hours or pay? Either I wake up at 3am to be out by 2pm (then have to sleep super early to wake up again) or I can’t go to work until mid morning then get out in the late afternoon and have no time left in my day. Or I can get a job with good hours but not even make enough to pay rent. I’m tired of this system. I genuinely believe that this system was great before but it’s broken now. I don’t want to work simply to survive and have no time to enjoy life. Life is short I don’t mind working but I want to do more than just work. I’m so tired.
