Quit and am going back to school!
So I worked on a farm growing the greenest of green plants. Easily up to 100-125 degrees in the Green houses. Super shitty work, and I couldn’t lay on rocks/uneven dirt to trim, because of breaking my back on the job about 8 months prior. After asking again and again to do anything else they said na, just sit on a bucket instead of laying down? So I asked for a raise. Very professional I said, “If you want me to do this for the next two months i’d formally like to request a raise!” They responded very fast in person almost cutting me off saying, “Oh a raise? Yah well we’ve never done anything like that before so uh, we’ll get back to you.” This company is almost 6yrs old. And they’ve run through so many people they haven’t given ANYONE raises. Well that’s bullshit cuz while me and…
Got suspended for being YELLED at
I (23F) am a server at a restaurant and have been working there for 7-8 months. One of the kitchen managers is a 23 year old male about 6’3 tall and very scary at times. The other day I was at work putting dishes in the dish pit and said manager turns to me and starts screaming “get the fuck out of here your voice is so fucking annoying blah blah blah…” fully screaming at me for about a minute. I finally leave after not saying a single word (I was in shock) and cried in another part of the restaurant. Today I got news that he’s suspended and so am I to be “fair” as the manager has a lot of friends at work and it wouldn’t be fair for me to be there if he isn’t. I’m disgusted at this, I did nothing. I got verbally harassed and…
Turned Down A Promotion Today
I love where I work, but I don't know if my boss is an idiot, if he thinks I'm an idiot, or both. We've been short-staffed for about 18 months now. I'm the lowest paid member of the team and also only one of two team members who isn't salary. When I got hired on initially I told them I didn't want to work salary because work life balance was more important to me than money. They said “great” and left it at that. Which was fine until they reorganized and I got a new boss about 2 years ago. The new boss doesn't stand up for us at all. So he just happily lets other people throw more work onto our team and we are just supposed to make do. Fast forward till a few months ago. My salaried team members are working 60+ hour weeks, the two of…
“Summer Fridays”
More proof the 40 hour work week is b.s. So my job gives “summer Fridays” which in theory means between Memorial Day and Labor Day everybody stops working at 1pm. I’ve enjoyed the extra time to hit the gym, run errands, hit up a happy hour earlier, but then I got to thinking…why the hell can’t we do this every week all year? I’ve been getting the same amount of work done, our sales team has actually sold more the past 3 months. There’s absolutely nothing that shows productivity has declined, yet come next week we’ll be back to working until 6 on Fridays. Again 40 hour work weeks are b.s. End rant.
