Ridiculous tactics manager is using to get higher bonus

Idk if it belongs here, I’m sorry if it doesn’t but I wanted to just share this. I’m working in a big and known resort. Apart from all departments being understaffed af, so managers can collect bonuses every month/year for keeping the budget low and not overspending.. Latest trend, that has been going on for the last 2-3 months is that the housekeeping manager, instead of ordering refills or single-use shower gel bottles for the toiletries supplies, is actually using old bottles and is filling them up with water so he doesn’t have to spend a big portion of the budget money on them. He has also been asking different companies for shampoo/conditioner/body lotion samples and has been able to refill them for free for the past months. (This didn’t work with the shower gels, because people tend to use a lot of product, thus the plain water) Also, instead…

Does anyone else live in constant fear of their corporate job turning into a nightmare

Ive had some terrible experiences in the past. Whenever i get into a nice groove of life, i fear that a sudden change in management will happen and it will become an employers market. Its irrational but terrifying.

Job let me go after 1 month with no warning

Firstly I live in the UK and with probationary periods being a thing I understand that this was likely entirely legal. I had recently left a steady job for a bit of a risk of a newcomer to the same market after being approached on LinkedIn. Upon joining in my first week I was greeted with about two training sessions and beyond that I was expected to learn the product range with self study. No problem I thought as I had been in the industry for a while it was all relatively similar. I was expected to generate new business and got going with some social networking and with it being holiday period it was relatively slow plus I unexpectedly got covid cancelling a customer visit I had booked in my second week. Fast forward to this week and I did a roleplay presentation with my direct manager. Admittedly nervous…

“We need you to be in the office because we work collaboratively”

During covid went to working from home, while industry came to a grinding halt. On the flip side, the customers we dealt with were actually working so there was no “quoting for work which might come in 6-8 years”. So work flow being minimal actually meant less wasted time, conversions from quotes to orders went through the roof. As soon as it was ‘suggested’ and not ‘required’ to work from home my work brought us back into the office, (still doesn’t sit right with me and I’m one of only 3 in the entire company who has managed to avoid covid this long), reasoning given was that we work best collaboratively. I hate it! One of my coworkers has to comment on everything. Typing too quickly? “You don’t need to write an essay you know!”. Not typing enough? “If you’re not doing anything I’ve got work I can give you…

When you work at a locally owned restaurant on the weekends and the bosses are on vacation for 2 weeks…

That means no one gets paid bc only they can sign the checks! I honestly will be ok because I do have a FT job, I just can’t figure out how to quit this one. But those who rely on this as their sole income, maybe not servers bc they get their tips but the kitchen, the dishwashers, bussers, etc??? Idk how this is legal or ethical and this means I won’t get paid for last weekend, this weekend, or next weekend until sept 16…. Crazy.

Saying thank you to all customer service/front desk/checkout folks

You guys deal with some of the shittiest entitled people on the planet day after day. You try your best to deal with their bad behavior with a smile on your face as professionally as you can. All for minimum wage or peanuts money and often no benefits. And for that, you have my sincerest thanks. A customer. Context- while at Walmart checkout, I was heldup in the checkout line because this crackhead looking white dude with his kids was pissed off about something and wouldn't get out of the way until customer service rep came to him right where he was standing. He was yelling, he was cussing, and he was shaking his fists. And then he held up the line for another 20 minutes saying shit like he is a paying customer and he will hold the line for however long he needs to. I wanted to punch…
