Work again today announced mandatory overtime. Not doing it, my life, and family, will not allow that sacrifice. Boss told me no problem, but he will have no choice but to follow the normal attendance policy and give me “points” for the time I miss. Technically, per the employee handbook 8 points is termination. But, despite the company having a no-fault attendance policy, there are people out there with more that 60 points, and a TON of people with more than 30 points. I want to show them the law that says it would be illegal for them to fire me for cause, unless that same cause is applied equally to everyone. Thanks for reading and for any help! -R
Month: September 2022
Not sure where to post but I’ll post here now. Less than 2 weeks at this job I finally have after months of looking for one and I’m probably either going to leave myself or be terminated because of scheduling. At the start of my interview at this job they said they hire based off availability. I’m a college student trying to work part time and only day shift for family reasons as well(9AM-5PM). I communicate this to every interview. Magically I get the job and we I get my schedule I have 12PM-6PM and 4:00PM-8:30PM. At first I was like ok.. this is just training no big deal. I come in to make my schedule for next week and the scheduling manger looks at it and says I need to close the store 2 days out the week. That was never brought up in orientation or the interview and…
So I’m a manager for a big coffee chain in Illinois. I’m salaried at $50,000/year, even after asking for a raise. My boss doesn’t give two sh*ta about my mental or physical health, even knowing I have mental and physical disabilities. This last pay period, I worked 130 hours and am only getting $1,500 for it. I had an appointment with a lawyer for personal reasons that I had to cancel because I have to close, after he said he’d close for me last week. I’ve had several mental breakdowns already tonight. He broke several labor laws last month (August) and broke Illinois ODRISA as well. I didn’t have a day off for almost 20 days. What do I do and who do I report this to? I feel like this company doesn’t care about it’s employees, especially the managers who do nothing but try and only get bit in…
My friend called me today and started ranting to me about her job. To sum it all up, she was getting paid below minimum wage and under the table (despite her boss promising her $9/hr for being manager of her store), and was the target of constant harassment from her boss. To make it even better, her former job was a front for one of those awful MLM scams, and she finally realized how harmful their products and “lifestyles” are. I'm super proud of her and her decision. This was her first job so she was bound to make some mistakes along the way. I'm just happy she stood up and decided she wasn't going to take this any longer.
my boss is so inspirational
Boss sent this in the group chat earlier today. “Next couple of weeks I really need everyone on board. So aches and pains please tough it out.” Followed by ” big dreams takes big work” This coming after one of my colleagues was running fever and had muscle aches but still tried to work thru the day. After lunch he decided to try to take the rest of the day off since he was feeling terrible and my boss through a hissy fit. The coworker avoided the confrontation and toughed it out as my boss would put it.
This is all such bullshit.
You know what sucks? The fact that you and I are literally forced to work and contribute in this society in order to survive. I suffer from severe depression and severe anxiety and I hate the fact that when I wake up feeling suicidal, I still need to put my feelings aside because WORK. The world we live in exploits people and underpays them. I hate working for shitty bosses. I hate working hours upon hours just to still be living paycheck to paycheck. This whole system is absolutely bullshit and I didn’t ask for it yet I still have to follow it otherwise I will be homeless and hungry.
My alternatives ‘going to HR’:
Malicious Compliance. Legal Entrapment. Unionization. Life's too short to deal with nonsense from a company that does not have any interest in paying you what you're worth, especially if they use underhanded tactics to fire you, treat you like crap, and pay you as little as they can so fuck 'em. Don't be afraid to go at it alone, go full scorch earth on them. May we all quiet quit and destroy profits.
Appalachia is rich!
Strongly agree-strongly disagree Depression, anyone? Raise your hand here! “I am happy most of the time” Mind if we take advantage of you? We have multiple questions to make sure! “I am okay with sudden schedule changes” “I am an over achiever” “I hate breaks” “I love overtime” Autistic? Nah, we like people with Adaptibility! “I like change” “I am a routine loving person” “I am quick to adapt to new situations” “I make friends quickly” “I like doing things the traditional way” And what the bleep is this? “I am fascist”
