Month: September 2022
I have a lovely old lady who lives a few doors up who will on occasion stop for a chat. The other week I mentioned what I did for a living and she mentioned that her son is looking for drivers for the company he works for, I told her I could be interested depending on the pay etc. It was 10mins from home vs 40-50mins at my current job which I enjoy and not overly strenuous job. He rang me last night making me the outstanding offer of minimum wage, split shifts and weekends. He seemed really offended when I didn't take his offer.
How to start a Union?
I like my job but it pays poorly. It's a credit union and everyone here is struggling money wise. I'm curious how one goes about starting a union that ensures the workers are accommodated accordingly. Feels like we slave away and barely make enough to live. If you were single working at my job in my city you would have to choose between food and rent. Its very bad. I want to make a difference but I don't want to be unrealistic. People complain so much but nothing changes and I want to be the start of the change. Ya know? No one is asking for handouts here just fair wages….
Resignation this weekend
So I moved halfway across the country for a new position within my company in May. Once I got here, my job duties changd drastically from the posted job description. Somehow as a service tech I was now required to do sales also (which I never would have applied for). My first 2 months here I did not have any of the things I was promised (company phone, vehicle, credit card, laptop, TOOLS, and even complete PPE). I was required (because my manager didn't feel like doing it) to chase down or requisition all of those things. Our intern went back to school 2 weeks ago, and his duties (~35 hours worrh) got dropped onto me. When I asked how they expected me to do my job, plus his, I was told to “figure it out” & that “we all have to make sacrifices for the customer”. Fuck that noise.…
The. System. Is. Failing.
THEN IT’S NOT FUCKING REMOTE WORK, IS IT?!?! God, it’s no wonder I consider suicide every time I start job searching. Remote work is the only work I can do at the moment, but nooooooo, they have to justify their office rent and the salary of all those mid-level managers. You don’t want us to have to fire them do you?! Fuck. Off. Just give me a fucking remote job. It doesn’t have to be much. I’ll do mindless data entry or audio transcription, or whatever you want! So long as I can do it with a laptop, and an internet connection from anywhere in the world. But noooooooo. We can’t possibly have all these office spaces renovated into apartments and have people work remotely so that we can fix this fucking housing crisis! No, it’s all about how we can screw the worker and fuck the society. Never have…
I think in all of my years working, my current boss is the absolute most horrible human being ever. I honestly believe that he is a clinical sociopath. Nobody in the company likes him and we have a revolving door. The concept of being a good boss and a fair boss seems to escape him. So I work in a senior sales position for a medical company and I’m on a stepped out commission plan. If I make between X and X then I get a certain percentage. Well usually at the end of the month he will sit there and scour through all of my sales and steal customers away from me just so I end up at a different percentage commission. This can be a 2k difference. There are customers that I have had for four years, but if they don’t order in 120 days, then they automatically…
Just the usual
My husband’s workplace uses a point system for attendance (1 point for calling off for any reason and .5 point for being late). Once you hit 10 points, you’re subject to termination. I’m going through a very difficult pregnancy and care for a toddler, so he has accrued a lot of points in order to help me or for being sick himself. On Tuesday, he was 3 minutes late because there was construction, the parking lot was full, and it takes 5-10 mins to get to the time clock from the regular parking lot as it is. He would’ve been on time had he not hit construction. He has a meeting with HR today, I assume in order to be terminated as his manager wouldn’t excuse him. His manager said he could ‘plead his case,’ but I don’t see how that will end in his favor. He was supposed to…
