September 1: Sometimes we fail.
Hi r/antiwork! I love what you guys do here – I've been a lurker here for quite some time. I was just wondering about your opinions on this. (Disclaimer: I understand that you guys don't have legal/employment lawyer experience or whatever, just looking for opinions and perhaps suggestions on how I could handle this.) So, to start from the beginning: I started in a new workplace back in June. This was after being treated kinda shit-illy at my last workplace (I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD earlier this year, and my old workplace basically told me to just cope, lmao). I started on a MUCH lower salary than my last job (£45k down to £35k) – I took this because I wanted to leave my old workplace quickly, wanted to slightly switch industries (science marketing to medical writing), and I was told by HR before I started here that…
Off clock “work”
I may be thinking too hard on this one, but anyway. My employer has us “submit” our time after we clock out on the last day of the pay period. I and about half of the staff are hourly employees. It may take 5-10 minutes to logon and “submit” your time, but it is after we clock out and is not paid for. Is that an acceptable request from them or am I being crazy here? Thank you!
I would rather die than work
Basically what it sounds like. I have a couple passions, and barely any of them are profitable enough for a business. I like motorcycles, tattoos, weed, video games, hanging out with buddies, working out, and having sex. I always thought I was gonna be extremely rich or extremely poor, free either way but rn it's looking like the ladder. It's not bc of my work ethic or anything, the only job I could get was at target so I'm a night stocker. I make like 2,000 a month plus my gf makes 1,500 but we spend it all on rent, food and payments like car insurance etc. I have no option, cost of living is getting so high in the US and federal min wage hasn't changed since 2009… No matter how hard I work i'll never be able to get rich in corporate America. I used to model in…
Performance Improvement Plan
Today in my 6 monthly performance review I was asked to go on a PIP by my manager. The head of HR was also there who started attending these reviews after an internal restructure. The rationale is reasonably valid yet seem petty and convenient for the purpose of a PIP; eg: accidentally sending email to wrong addressee, typos in investor documents, lack of lateral thinking. What are my options and how should I handle my response? Initially, I am thinking to ask for time to process and to request what options there are before going down any path (and not even mention the PIP, as am sure they shall point to that path to funnel me into it). For background, I have been at the company for 5 years and have had an often fractured relationship with my manager, who is experienced and successful yet micro managing and hyper critical.…
