My workplace (retail stores chain) has recently launched an app for “updates and information”, such as what are the most popular items, etc – and made everyone download it to their personal phones. I disabled notifications from the app and asked in a local lawyers group if it's legal to have people fired over refusing to install the app, and got replies that there's no law (in my country) to stop workplaces from doing that! Anyways they don't really have a way to know if I deleted it ig, what would you do?

After 15 years struggling in the worst environments at the very bottom of the pecking order in academia, local and state government, and just trying to climb the ladder, I thought I found the job of my dreams (lmao). Director. Nonprofit. A mission aligned with my personal ethics. They very early impress upon new hires the culture of “we are a family here”. After a decade and a half of abuse and torment from micromanagers, of course this tactic hooked me in immediately. But almost a year later, it’s so blatantly obvious how toxic they are. At least at my last jobs, there was no guise of “family”, holier-than-thou “we’re the most diverse and forward-thinking”, and other self-congratulatory BS. The president of the organization just got a fat new title (“president + ceo”) and the senior leadership are so power hungry. It’s all the same, the most ruthless and power-hungry…
I've always disagreed with how employers treat people, how little they get paid and how life is such a struggle for so many bills and how everything is so expensive. The idea of how disconnected the ruling class is from reality pisses me off to no end. I make 17.16 an hour and I used to think I made an ok amount. It's an okay amount for what I do, and the job is so easy. just enough to get by living with my dad. Just help him with rent, right? Couldn't be that hard. . . .well, this month-next month, will be really tight for me. I don't know if I'll be able to make payments. So many things have come up, things I want to do, things I need to do. And all of it costs a lot of money things will be so tight idk if I'll…
*Greater need for Flexibility*
Never allow yourself to be devalued
I had an experience with a business owner who was asking me how much I was willing to work for and he said the absolute lowest. My original ask was $150,000. I turned around and said $150,000 and not one cent less. I didn’t get the job but I am not going to devalue myself and my decades of experience for a cheapskate boss. FYI his office is like a fishbowl and I refuse to work in that environment.
I’m quitting my job today!
Can’t sleep! Been at my company for over 10 years. It was a great job. They put in a new ERP system about 2 months ago and screwed up everything I’ve built over the past 10 years. My entire department is struggling every day just to get 10% of their work done and they are all about ready to quit. Got a call from a headhunter about 2 weeks ago and sent them my resume. Got a written offer today for 25% more pay. Apparently, it’s time for me to go.
