Month: September 2022
I’m genuinely curious about this. I was informed I’m being let go this Friday. The meeting with my manager was a “tag up” and the moment I walked in and heard “I have legal on the line” I knew it was over. Now I have a list of traumas from this job (I was at for 3 months) and my previous job and my retail jobs. I’ll go first but how did work traumatize you? – Every tag up will feel like I’m being fired or laid off – Don’t talk about your life, or decorate your office – Everyday could be your last, never be comfy – Never talk about how stressed you are – Never take time off – Despite good feedback I was given bad feedback at termination so I’ll never think good feedback is real – I rush to get groceries on the belt and into…
On building work ethic
Seeing a lot of hype at the Alaska race, and while it is true that Ranked Choice Voting is better than First Past The Post, (and for some local stuff) it is NOT an improvement for better representation for 3rd parties, and anyone who says so is lying. 3rd Parties barely improve under RCV, and to see the purest example of RCV vs something more representative: Look at Australia's House vs Australia's Senate. There is some extra representation under Ranked Choice Voting, yes, but there's a reason their Two Party Preferred vote is almost always Labour vs National (Conservative). It's also not a 1 to 1 comparison to the USA, but when you think of Germany, Nordic Countries, etc. It's Proportional Representation. Not Ranked Choice Voting. New Zealand uses Proportional Voting too, and as such has better representation of 3rd parties than Australia. Please don't fall for RCV as some…
I’m having a bad time at my new job
So I graduated college in the spring with a bachelors in accounting and a month or so later I found a job at a local school district in the budget department. I expected it would be difficult because classes were difficult at college but I had a job as a bookeeper before the pandemic so I thought it would be fine. My first month was very hard but I managed to get through the training and I kept going. This second month though has been so hard i was thrown into work i was never trained for and it was both a lot of it and very difficult. I’ve been leaving work so late everyday, I’m so stressed and I don’t feel like I’m getting better at it. My bosses are getting frustrated with me because in my struggle to get things done in time I’m either making a lot…
For Context the comments are from this yahoo article: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/tiktoker-says-older-generations-being-183055654.html The original Tik Tok video is also posted here (there are some annoying spam videos articles above and below so watch out) I genuinely thought the young man did a good job explaining his sentiments, and was baffled to read these comments, but I guess I was naïve to expect anything different. I notice that while all of the comments are quick to say things like “participation trophies” and “no work ethic” no one responds to his point about climate change. How do we change the culture when there are so many dug in to this extent? Maybe I shouldn't let the yahoo comments section which could be considered bottom of the barrel internet dregs bother me so much lol, but it does https://preview.redd.it/x3jb5kv3h6l91.jpg?width=940&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e79b0f2a4833f1b247fe3fe2d410978da75b1da9 https://preview.redd.it/dscwrkv3h6l91.jpg?width=987&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d97715dde4044573b09716cc9862e66f9c73389 https://preview.redd.it/hge4jkv3h6l91.jpg?width=1172&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fdc876d44acf872f5e050eba0a832aeca7efb451
Just quit my job for another
First up my bad for short notice. Called my boss today since he's never around and told him I'm quitting for another job. Only gave 2 days notice but my new company wants me fast and I wanted a lil week break between jobs. He's pissed starts asking me where I'm going and I refuse cause I know exactly what he will do with that info. I wanted to thank him for the opportunity but he got aggressive real fast. He says your just gonna leave with 2 days notice? And no courtesy to tell me where your going next?! I'm just apologizing at this point cause I don't want to leave with 2 day notice (but I'm stressed, burnt out and a bitter). He then says you will learn! And hangs up. Supervisor texts me later telling me to just come pick up my shit tomorrow. Here's the catch…
So, I work in the produce department of a grocery store, and like in large parts of the US, we are having labor shortages due to crappy starting wages. We keep hiring people but it's overwhelming work for relatively low pay, so most people last a few weeks before quitting. Due to these circumstances, I have had to start working 6 days a week. I don't really complain too much about it, I've always enjoyed working there and the extra OT money is a nice plus. It would be even nicer if I could earn 2-3 more dollars an hour, but the store manager rejected my request a few months ago. So fast forward to Saturday. I was asked by my department manager if I could come in on my day off (Sunday) since someone called off and we needed the extra body. I told them I was up for…
I'm seeing a lot of attacks in this sub on people who are more successful. Your enemies aren't people who are paid 100k. We should band together and fight against the elites. The billionaires. Not your DINK neighbours down the road who can afford a home. The elites want us to hate and fight amongst ourselves. Don't give in to that.
