Mandatory Meetings
Just started a new job that has Mandatory Meetings every Wed. I am off tomorrow, but must be there 11-2 for our ‘Lunch & Learn’. What are the workforce rules in Texas about mandatory meetings? Do they have to pay you?
The Covid Hall
During the height of covid the facility I worked at had 22 unvaccinated die. When the new strain came some people got it again. Including me. Since I was vaccinated I wasn’t hospitalized but had some symptoms. Mainly fatigue. And since there was no one to work the quarantine hall it was left to me and a few others. I worked all night for 7 days straight. We were paid nothing extra. Those employees who were not vaccinated got to go on a five day paid vacation when they got covid. When I got covid again I was fully vaxxed with no symptoms. Since there were no residents on quarantine I was sent home for five days with no pay. I hate that facility. And I hate healthcare workers who aren’t vaccinated.
My manager is a terrible dude. Before him, the team could talk and joke, but now if we say anything it’s met with “you’re just lucky you don’t have kids.” He liked to especially get after me because I am the founder’s son. Sure my dad recommended me, but the I still had to do interview process and prove that I’m a good worker. My dad has even said on multiple occasions that if I’m costing him money he will not hesitate to fire me and frankly I believe him as he has already fired multiple cousins, close friends and his brother. The team knows I’m the boss’ son, but for the past 3 years they’ve treated me like any other coworker which is exactly how I want to be treated. I do the same work as them, get scolded for the same mistakes as them and get paid just…
Unity, Family, and Teamwork
Today was the start. I am putting my words into actions. I spoke about the importance of teamwork in today's economy not too long ago in a reddit live in r/antiwork. I believe it's far more difficult to make ir on your own nowadays because of how ridiculously expensive everything has become. I have moved into a home with my closest friend, and my girlfriend (his girlfriend may be moving in aswell). We will be working together to become free from the monotony of everyday life. We want the freedom to do whatever we want. Financial freedom. We all desire to strengthen our minds, bodies, and souls. The most difficult part in all of this so far has been finding people with the same mindset. People who I genuinely can trust. The heart of man is wicked. If anyone is interested, I will update every 3 months on our journey.…
coworker freaked out on me for a joke
i don’t need advice on what to do, just wanna share what happened. The below is an excerpt from the text i sent to my boss about it. Some woman called in a huge order for Thursday that she wanted to be frozen, and she wanted everything individually wrapped. [Coworker] took the order and brought it back to me before he left and asked if I could do it before I left for the night, and I was joking around saying that I wouldn’t because it was a huge, tedious order (in my opinion it was obvious I was joking. maybe it wasn’t clear to him though). Well, he got really angry out of nowhere, slammed his hand on the counter, threw the order at the wall, screamed at me “f*ck it, i’m god damn out of here” and stormed off. I laughed at first because i thought he was…
Why do I hate work so much?
I've had a slew of jobs in my life so far but none have stuck. When I'm at work, I do my job very efficiently. I enjoy socializing with the customers, making them smile. Letting them talk about themselves. However while at home, some days I just fight myself internally to get up and go. I feel lazy. I feel- selfish? Guilty. Disappointed. I've called into work one day for the past 3 weeks. Today was one of those days and I'm thinking soon I will be getting a talking to from my boss. On top of it all I'm constantly exhausted and fall asleep often during the day when I'm not working. When I wake up to get ready for a shift I feel exhausted and groggy. Some days I can shake it, others I'm too worried to even drive. I am desperate for the money, I support myself…
Anything but a reasonable pay
A few weeks back, a bunch of IT conglomerates found out that a good number of their employees are moonlighting and started firing them all in huge chunks. Everyone was infuriated by this move itself, and people were shouting may be they won't moonlight if you paid them enough. Now these companies are planning on letting their employees moonlight with prior approval from their higher authorities. The moment I saw this news, I was like you gotta be kidding me You can read about this here
