Question: my sheet metal union has a no strike clause in it.

Is there any situation where we would be justified to strike without any negative repercussions? We just signed new contracts in July and most of us kinda feel like we got screwed. Mostly money wise as our wages are about a $1 lower than other trades, even trades within the same company. That coupled with inflation still beating us to death, and a big group of us driving 120 miles round trip every day for work, I just felt like we had our hands tied behind our backs. For context, I live in the south and I’ve been told that unions here are not as strong as ones up north. I’ve had to personally deal with Shit that I was told by other union reps wouldn’t fly where they work so there’s that.

Terminated/Reinstated Twice

My manager fired and reinstated me twice (higher ups forced her hand to take me back because they did not see “a cause” for termination first time, second time the causes were found to be false). First time I went back, she immediately put me on performance improvement plan; I was constantly tortured. As I am going back second time, what would be a good strategy? I have a disability requiring accommodation which result in inconvenience to my manager and coworkers. I can’t fix disability, but I hope to be able to continue working. I do not want to get fired again. Any help guidance support appreciated

Homophobic co-workers/boss

I started a new remote position and was flown down to Florida to meet my co-workers and boss. My first day in town a group takes me out to lunch and immediately begins trash talking a coworker who wasn’t in the office that day. It was regarding how she raises her child and then was followed up by comments about how there is not father in the house, just 2 mothers. One the way back to the office my boss asked me what I thought about boys having pedicures. I said “I think its just like boys having manicures” trying to evade the conversation. She continues to explain how awful it is that this coworkers son has glitter nail polish on his feet and sometimes wears a purse and her own child can’t understand it because ‘boys don’t wear purses”. She went on to bring up the “don’t say gay”…

Child labor??

So I'm currently sitting outside of a circle k and there's a child working. Mostly sweeping but he can't be older than 12 or 13. I'm assuming he's the cashier's kid and maybe she didn't have a sitter and putting him to work? Idk I just don't like the look of it

Tick-Tock… Seriously considering a drastic change

I'm 45 and have been working since I was 13. Living on my own since 15 and haven't taken more then 2 weeks off (even between jobs) in 30+ years… I burnt out and my health is in decline. I have some modest savings and assets from my work and toil but nothing close to retirement. It is increasingly difficult to get up each day to go work and know that unless something changes, I will be “lucky” to get to work until I am 70+… I feel like I may have 5-10 years of “Living” left in me. My intuition and heart agree that I should exit from my career, liquidate my assets, and set about to traveling and enjoying myself for the next 5-10 years. This will leave me near destitute and broke at 55 and then I can do whatever I must at that time… It is…

Written up for being upset

My managers/general manager scheduled my (assistant manager) vacation time without my consent. I was upset and circled the vacation day on calendar and wrote “we need to talk about this”. According to them that act of writing on the schedule was unacceptable and I was written up. They are still making me take my “vacation” time this week. I had all of three days to plan my “vacation”. Gave them two week notice today and they told me Its customary to give one month notice. I guess I'm working here until Thanksgiving or I can't use them for references.

The downfall of Airbnb’s hyper-rentier business?

https://www.tiktok.com/@sam_jarman/video/7158115461891099946?_r=1&_t=8WoYWeKbuHO&is_from_webapp=v1&item_id=7158115461891099946 This short video argues that, consumer savings being down 90% in the past couple years, Airbnb is going to start folding up, but perhaps not go out of business entirely. Let's do our part to spread the word of Airbnb's shittiness to help bring down this company. And this is antiwork because Airbnb is a paradigmatic example of landlordism on steroids.
