Any ways to keep an employer from scheduling you on certain days?

My employer is relentless on scheduling me outside of my availability. Is there anything I can use or say to ensure law wise so that I get those days off consistently. I need them to help finish schooling. Thank you!

[UPDATE] hype me up Monday when I ask my boss for a raise

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/y56mrf/hype_me_up_for_monday_when_i_ask_my_boss_for_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button Nothing is set in stone yet but for now, all I can say is…. why is it perfectly acceptable for successful/more powerful people to be greedy but the second (in my case, the first time) I ask for something more, I'm greedy and my value is minimized?

Boss disrespects his main employee while struggling to find new help

So my boss is a bit of a narcissist but the guy I was replacing gave me that warning. I needed the job and having no carpentry experience this was an opportunity I had to take. I had worked for him for two years, never late and don’t complain about work load. I always did my best because I have always felt like I have to try harder than the guy next to me to get ahead (it’s a flaw of mine.) He’s routinely added more and more to my work load and extended the hours that I work whenever I was given a raise. I get paid by the day not by the hour btw. So he’s been having some health issues so I’ve tried to be patient and understanding to him. I know he’s gonna be having a small procedure done on his heart (apparently he has one)…

Handed schedule at new job, weekend work for Q4

I’m not working on Sunday. Been an all around amazing experience at the new job until today. Manager slacks me my schedule for entire quarter, I have to FRIDAY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 11-730! So this on its face is not necessarily what irks me, but the fact that during the interview process I was led to believe that there would have been a discussion prior to the end of training about scheduling. This I find to be extremely disrespectful, not even to be handed it in person and basically told this is when you will be here for the next 3 months. I have never, ever experienced this in any position I have held prior to this. At the very very very least I have been given something to write preferences onto, even if they’re not honored. (Unless it’s M-F 8 hrs) Not in retail, not in service, never. There…

It’s been 11 months..

11 months ago I along with the rest of the company was laid off. Between severance, poverty finance lifestyle (full life of training) side gigs, and my savings I’m still fine to pay rent + bills for another year. I’m struggling to put together my resume to start applying for jobs in my field. I know I should, but the nagging inside keeps aiding in my hilarious and elaborate reasons for putting it off. How do you get motivated for returning to the work force after nearly a year when you’ve been full time dedicated working for decades? I’d love to hear anyone’s personal experience on this one.

Who do I report the Managing Director of HR to, when she refers to us as “her bitches”?

Was in a meeting with a bunch of big wigs in the company and some external guests. I represented the IT department. The head of HR, who also happens to be a managing director, and is unofficially on the executive board, pointed to our side of the table when introducing the non-exec worker bees: “And all of them are MY BITCHES!”

It just proves my point that company loyalty means nothing. Don’t ever give your life to a company who would fire you in a heartbeat for stupid reasons.

$100 for 30 hours

I just quit a job I was about to start. Pay was min wage and I was okay with it since I'm in school. I don't know if it's the effects of being in this sub or just my experience with min wage workplaces, but I immediately got out of my seat in the office when owner says before I get paid an hourly wage there is a mandatory 2 week training online for a “couple hours” a day, which I'll get a $100 stipend for. I'm usually shy and have a tendency to be a passive yes-man! I did not STUTTER this time. I asked why do they think it's okay to pay a non-contractual employee less than min wage for mandatory training. They had no good answer. I left and called labour board omw home lol. I will see what happens now. Point of this wasn't to vent…

if you’re asking for advice, please mention the country (and state if relevant) you are in.

I see so many posts where people will ask a question, others will answer, and then OP is like oh I don't live in the US. Mention that in your post so people that know information relevant to your location can respond.
