I was so sick all week last week at work. Sneezing coughing stuffy itchy to the point where I thought I had covid. Tested negative. Went home for the weekend and felt better after a few hours. Was fine all weekend including this morning. As soon as I get here it all starts up again!! If I ask my boss for an air quality test here he'll go into a bipolar rage! Help!?!
Month: October 2022
As the French refinery strike enters a third week, with a third of gas stations facing shortages, other layers of workers are entering into struggle, protesting against inflation and pension cuts. Rail, transit, energy, health and education workers are set to participate in a one-day nationwide protest strike called by the Stalinist General Confederation of Labor (CGT) tomorrow. Significantly, workers in a number of private industries will join the strike, as will broader layers of public sector workers. Garbage collection workers in cities including Paris, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Rouen are set to strike. Industrial firms where workers will join the strike to protest below-inflation wage increases include automaker Stellantis, defense contractor Dassault, and airplane engine manufacturer Safran. This movement is not a French but an international struggle against policies of inflation and war pursued by capitalist ruling classes internationally. In recent weeks, port and transport workers have gone on strike…
HR might as well be against breathing
Yes this is real, I had an boss once who decided we should do a pizza party. This particular boss legitimately had no control over wage increases (union shop) so decided a pizza party on the company dime was a nice way to say thanks for coming in and working hard. Our site had roughly a dozen employees and when the time came for the party she went to everyone and asked what their favorite pizza was. A few hours later 25 pizzas showed up, one of each person’s favorite and then randoms like cheese, pepperoni, etc. The company got a huge bill for pizza and we all were fat and happy at the end of the day. That was one time where a pizza party was a good thing
I'm currently in the midst of a lateral move in my company. This is primarily due to the lack of support on my team, namely from a bullying supervisor. This supervisors way of “supporting and teaching me” was to talk down to me, interrupt, and generally just rip me apart. Every “collaboration” was a fight which I found out later, is just his “teaching” style. The bullying got so bad that I self-harmed and considered killing myself. I ended up breaking down to my manager who, after talking to the supervisor, decided that maybe this team wasn't the right fit for me (insert eyeroll). So, they are moving me to a new team within the larger company. But not before offering me the chance to work in a startup consisting of my current manager and the aforementioned supervisor. Startups, for those who have had the fortune to never work in…
Where's the lie in this??? I worked as CNA during the pandemic. The medical director of the floor treated us to pizza at least once a week for about 6 months until I quit. I was so stressed out and miserable during this time. Because of this I can't stand pizza. My kids haven't eaten pizza in like forever and I feel bad. However I associate pizza to how stressed I felt during the pandemic.
… I wish there were just a couple more posts on how to be an ally if you support anti-work, but you still enjoy what you do. I work with people I adore and have been around for years and years, and we all feel basically the same about “anti-work” and a lot of other progressive work groups. We want to show as much support as we can, while still respecting the fact that although we don’t have the same work experiences, we understand and empathize with the cause. We can all understand… we don’t have to agree, but we can understand.
