Month: October 2022
Fired before starting my new job
I went through 3 interviews over the last month and finally got a offer. My start date was last Monday. Several days before my start date my mom went into septic shock and had to have her leg amputated. My start date was pushed back to today. Well I was staying with my mom several hours away from my home and I was exposed to Covid. My job is very strict with Covid so what happened next shocked me. They told me not to come in. I’m not even sure if I have Covid, but I am positive I was around 4 people who do have it. I let them know if it immediately this weekend, but was given the message to just not come in and that they’re disappointed I wasted their time.
I got my first job out of college last April, at a very small but dysfunctional marketing firm. I started off as an office manager and within 3 months I was switched to a project manager (no increase in pay) due to the company’s high turnover rate and refusal to hire more people. I was open to it though, good work experience I figured. I have no professional experience at all and I feel like I’m taking the blame for my lack of training. I have received maybe, 5 hours of training in total over the course of the past 4 months. I was just thrown into the role and told to start assigning projects, then I get scolded for not doing it correctly. This past week, I assigned a website edit to a programmer and I find out that he did not make the form live. I was scolded…
Does it keep the lights on?
I am not quite sure how to respond. After 3 rounds of internal interviews for a position elsewhere in my company, the final interview was one of the worst I’ve ever had. The other interviews went really well, but this interview with HR was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. The HR rep talked over me, interrupted me, mentioned how many other candidates she had to interview and how long it was going to take her to do that. An example of this was when she was asking me a question, I’d get 4 words out of my mouth before she would yell THAT DOES NOT ANSWER MY QUESTION. She also made the interview more about her than me, telling me about all the Fortune 500 companies she’d worked for and how many years of experience she had doing interviews. I was pissed and felt like I didn’t get a fair…
If you’ll look over at r/roosterteeth you’ll see a large collection of testimonials denoting workplace harrassment, wage theft, and the most blatant examples of “HR is the company’s friend, not yours” I’ve ever seen. I hope this falls within the sub’s rules and stays up, as this is a company which for two decades has passed forward the image of a family, a community where its fandom felt at home. The grim reality of it is that it’s a nightmare where not only will you be unpaid for your work, you will also be attacked by your coworkers and ignored by Human Resources. For the last few years they’ve touted the moral high ground of “be better” to its audience whilst perpetuating the same bigoted behaviour behind the scenes.
Did Thursday/Friday freelance data entry at £12/hour and I was pretty chuffed having a 2 week sigh of relief planned to get me time to find another full time job. Instead I turn up early today to be told they've hired a group of people to get through it faster and I wouldn't be paid for any more of my time. I love people
