Hearing horror stories from employees and ex-employees makes me want to boycott anything under Amazon’s umbrella, what are your thoughts?
Month: October 2022
started a new job recently and I hate it
I work in a car mirror factory as an operator. We're expected to meet a quota of 60 parts/hour. There is literally is no time at all for mistakes or pee breaks. On top of that every day is 8.5 hours because they refuse to pay us for lunch but still want 8 hours work out of us. I'm so tired every fucking day. I make 17 an hour and still can barely make it from paycheck to paycheck. $500/wk is not enough to live off of at all. I've only been here going on a month this week, but I want to find something that pays more and has better hours for less work. I don't have a college degree though or any management experience. Any ideas what my next steps should be?
AppleTogether Update October 2022
AppleTogether, the worldwide solidarity union, is celebrating four major accomplishments this week! Oklahoma City Apple Store (Penn Square) just voted to join CWA, becoming the first store to do so. They are the second store to unionize in the USA this year, after the Towson Maryland Apple Store joined IAM in June. Cumberland Mall Apple Store in Atlanta is expected to have a vote to join CWA in a few months. The Apple Retail Workers Union will launch their vote to unionize the Glasgow store with GMB tomorrow, October 18th. The vote will run through the beginning of November as it is a postal vote. RAFFWU (Retail and Fast Food Workers Union) in Australia that represents Apple retail employees in every store, will strike on October 18th, rejecting Apple’s lowball contract offer after a dozen collective bargaining sessions went nowhere . Per RADFWU, this is the first nationally coordinated industrial…
Fired on my first day
So I was supposed to start a new job today, found a band in the contract that says I have to pay them a penalty (about 5/6 months worth of the salary in that company) in case I leave before a year. This was really confusing to me because: 1) there are a number of reasons why someone can quit a job before a full year. 2) I am hoping to receive a scholarship and might leave before a year (still unsure). I refused to sign the paper and it escalated till they decided to terminate me on spot. I just want to ask, is this penalty agreement a thing elsewhere? For example in Europe or America?
About to have a talk with my boss.
I'm going to have a talk with my boss in a few hours and I'm going to tell him all the shit they've been putting me through. Pray for me guys. And if anyone knows of a Sales Engineer job, let me know because I think they are going to fire me after I'm done telling them all the things that I want to say. They have been lying to me for the past year and giving me more workload because I've been behaving in submissive mode, but I'm done of lies and not getting my variable and also working more than I'm payed for. Wish me luck, even tho I think that getting fired will make me more happy.
My job won’t allow me time to eat!
I work at an elementary school in the special needs department. We are very short staffed and one of our teachers quit earlier this year. So we have 20 small autistic kids in one class with only 5 staff. Because i work 7 hours, they don’t even give me a 15 minute break. They say they are not obligated to. My issue is that I’m running around ALL day trying to control these kids and most time I’m not able to eat because as soon as i pick up my food, i have to put it down. Am I wrong for being very upset about this. I’m obviously looking for another job but I feel like my supervisor thinks I’m being over dramatic. She just sits at her desk all day!!! Can I call OSHA about this?
