There has been a lot of “woe is me, no one is fixing shit for me” going on here lately so I’m wondering what you are doing to improve your situation? I came across the idea of “proactive apathy” so now, assume no one is helping you, they aren’t gonna help you, it’s up to you to help you.

I just want to rant a little bit. I don’t want to get a part-time job but frankly, I don’t make enough at my full-time job. There’s all these places that are hiring for part-time work but none of them want to hire me due to my “lack of flexibility”. I’ve tried applying at places that advertise for shifts that will fit my schedule, but I get turned down again and again. I never want to hear “people just don’t want to work” ever again.

I've worked for the same construction company for 42 months. Highest attrition rate I've seen in my entire 20-year career as a Finish Carpenter/Cabinetmaker. 20% is high, but here, they are closer to 98% attrition! In 42 months, that's 28 employees. Hey there, I (f20) just joined a food service place about a week ago that pays fairly well in my area. On my orientation they told me to put in my availability on the app on my phone, so I put the availability I wanted on my phone, the supervisor declined it immediately, he told me to pull up the app, so I did, and he said “let me show you something” took my phone and put me as an open availability, so ofcourse they put me on shifts I wasn't comfortable with, like how they have me on closing, I am not really comfortable walking home at 1AM so I requested them not to, my supervisor declined it and told me if I “can't work the hours I 'agreed' to” then they won't have a position for me, then the next day my supervisor pulled me into his office…

She's 6 months. There's already been complications. We were luckily able to get on her health care for now. Fuck this exploitative system. Fuck my former employer, I hope the DOT and the DOL rakes them over the coals. I'm so sick. Who's going to hire a guy who's going to want/need take leave in 3 months to care for a newborn and his wife that'll likely need a C-section. At this point I'm hoping for a miracle.

I work 100% remotely in public accounting. A typical day for me is working independently for the most part, while myself and my team make ourselves available for any phone calls, web meetings, and emails needed throughout the day. I got a call from my manager Friday late afternoon. She asks that for the next two weeks, starting upcoming Monday, that I will need to work 50 hour weeks (from my usual 40), with my webcam ON for the entirety of each day, so that she can “see my face throughout the day”. Our company starting allowing employees to become fully remote during the pandemic, and although I didn’t start with them until 2022, it’s safe to say she doesn’t like having to manage remote employees. Grew up in private school and after my kid sister (she was 18) died of a heroin addiction I too fell into the life of addiction myself.
