The bar is on the floor and employers are pulling out shovels

Been trying to settle into a decent job since I moved to a large city last summer. My area has a wide variety of jobs available and yet somehow none of them meet my (apparently unrealistic) standards. My impossibly high standards are as follows: pays at least $15, does not require intense physical labor, does not allow customers to straight up abuse me, and offers 30-40 hours in a mostly consistent schedule. I've worked in 4 different places since I moved here and not one of them paid fairly for the amount of work or verbal abuse (from customers and management!) employees were expected to put up with. I'm just trying to pay my bills without being in abject misery 40-50hrs out of every week. I thought I landed a decent job at Walmart, since it was mostly enjoyable for the first few months, but the turnover is insane and…

One thing I never understood about business and the corporate environments is…

Why is it that managers and those with higher titles lose the ability to schedule things for themselves?! You know when you are available, you know where you need to go and who you need to speak to. Why am I chasing people down and having to find time in your schedule?! Am I alone on this?

I took over someone else’s job at work and today the CEO bashed me in a meeting for doing a bad job

3 months in to a job. Someone got fired in social media shortly after I started and I had to take on all of their responsibilities by myself (along with my multiple responsibilities in my job description). Today I was going over social media stuff, and then the ceo yelled at me that what I’m posting is boring, how they’ve felt that way for weeks and repressed it, how I’m not thinking outside of the box, etc. and how we need to be less business/more fun (sorry but don’t businesses on LinkedIn post about their business?) Also, I was posting on the topics they told me to post on. The thing is: all of these posts go through multiple channels of approval before they are posted. I’m just really disgusted at this absolutely toxic person. I took on a second job with 0 raise…. Time to find a new job.…

Just found out the local pizza shop doesn’t give credit card tips to the employees. What should I do?

I saw a post on here recently that some people put a sign on the window or their tip jar that credit card tips don’t go to the employee. So tonight I figure it’s Friday, payday, screw it I’m not cooking let’s just do pizza. I go pick up the order and it’s two kids, maybe 15 but couldn’t have been much over that if at all. I usually don’t tip pick up because no service has really been provided to justify it. But it was busy and the kids looked like they’d probably seen a few Karen’s tonight which fits the area so I hit the preset 15%. I feel I should note this is the best local spot around, 5 minutes from the house and the next closest are Pizza Hut, Dominos, or Papa Johns. This one by far one of the best around. That other post hit…

UK antiwork folks, what are your thoughts on how to fill out employee mental health questionnaires?

I work in children’s education and I’ve asked some UK folks in other subs about this; people said I don’t have to disclose my mental health issues but it could be helpful or even necessary if I have a crisis down the line. (ETA: I have depression, anxiety, and ADHD. I’ve never had my MH impact my work in too conspicuous of a way but I’ve just moved to the UK by myself so I don’t have the same support system I’m used to.) I want to know what this community thinks about it though; in the US my response would be “hell no” to disclosing but it seems norms are different in the UK, I’m not sure to what degree. My new employer’s (a charity with around 50 staff members, if that makes any difference) questionnaire asks about several physical conditions like fainting, epilepsy, migraine. I do get migraines…

Why does this sub shame me when I walk out on my job? Reposting cause some of y’all hypocrites. This guy said some shitty things about black customers but of course he must be more “mature” than me. I’ve never despised a job more
