Can someone clarify this for me as someone who doesn’t live in the US? You can collect unemployment payments but only if you get fired? How does that work?

Howdy! Someone ik was let go from their contract position managing real estate. The contract wasn't yet established due to a 90 day waiting period. Are there any labor board protections? Or can the IRS get them? They were paying money untaxed and collected no tax information, so I suspect the company is violating tax laws. I am uncertain about any labor protections considering the lack of a contract or legal record, but I'm hoping to find out if there's anything that can be done. Thanks!

I work from home. We clock in and out on some system called Paychex. Our timeclock has a tendency to jump forward in time when clocking in or out. I noticed since I started but really just thought about it again right now. I was headed back to work from lunch and realized i was a few minutes early. So i waited. I waited until the time on paychex was 1:40 PM. I was on it too so it’s not like it was almost 1:41 PM. It shows that I clocked back in from lunch at 1:42 PM despite the display beneath it saying 1:40 PM.

Three careers, all with promotions, ending up getting bullied out by superiors, and back to square one each time. I don’t wanna do it anymore. I don’t want to participate, because I feel like I always get royally dicked somewhere down the line. Is this the right place for this mindset?
